carbon arrows

This season I have been hunting with carbon arrows. I was using Easton Axis arrows. A few weeks ago I shot a doe, complete pass through, tonight I grabbed the same arrow and put it on my spinner. Holy wobble! I changed the broadhead and tried again. Holy wobble! I grabbed the rest of the batch and they all wobbled with the exception of one. Thats not good, so I broke out my trusty XX78 2314's and just finished re tuning and sighting in. Perfect bullet holes. I also have a dozen Goldtips and spun them as well. 6 out of 10 had some type of wobble. Nothing against carbon but I think I will stay with my SuperSlams.

Re: carbon arrows

The trouble with most of the carbon arrows today, are that the inserts don't fit snugly into the shaft. When they're glued in...if they're not spun as the glue dries, they're permanently crooked.

Goldtips are one of the brands i've had troubles iwth.

One carbon brand I haven't had any problems with, are the Carbon Express Maxima's. They fit tightly into the shaft for a perfect fit.

Re: carbon arrows

I think the Axis' weak tolerances are a big reason why there have been a lot of "wobblers". For the price folks pay for them, you'd think you'd get an arrow that would be a bit tighter.

I shoot Gold Tip Pro Hunters. Thanks to Tony, he pointed out that I could get GT Pro's (+/-0.001" and +/-0.5 grains) for the same price as I could Axis arrows (+/-0.005" and +/-2.0 grains). There are no wobblers in my dozen of GT Pro's. The Axis seems to be a good arrow, but for the price I'm really surprised the tolerances aren't better.

Re: carbon arrows

I think Parsons has it. I've noticed that the inserts tend to make some of my carbons wobble. I also noticed that my Thunderheads are tougher to get on straight with out a wobble. I've spun on 2 Muzzy's now, and neither had a wobble. Muzzy's ferule is set up a lot different than the Thunderhead.

Re: carbon arrows

Easton is coming out with some new arrows for 2006. Small diameters but tougher wall construction. They have them on their web site.

I have always shot Eastons but I am sure Gold Tip, Carbon Express, and a host of others are great too, you have to be to survive in the archery business.

Re: carbon arrows

my first question is you didnt spin tune your arrows with broadheads on them before you went hunting ? you really need to do this each time you get arrows made..this is mandatory for me every year no matter what type of archery im shooting..

the Easton Axis arrows use the Hidden Insert Technology ( HIT ) that Easton came up with last year. but they are a pain in the butt to glue in straight . to bad to many people realized this after they bought them..

i have helped our local archery shop build over a 100 dozen of Goldtip arrows for myself and customers in 5 years. we have never had any wobbly arrows or inserts that are out of tolerance.

when you glue in inserts its pretty easy. first they must be cut square . then the insert must be glued in , we use hotmelt , and i put them in making a full turn. this allows the hotmelt to spread evenly inside the arrow shafts and along the insert..

i have had nothing but success with Goldtips and i will continue to shoot them as long as they make them.. grin.gif
