browning_gold_12
hey guys. i am gonna try a new place saturday i have never hunted before. it is an oxbow lake off the river. i drove down there last sat morning, and saw a good many ducks, where the arrows are. i was thinking of getting on the end of the peninsula so i could see them coming from both ways. do ya'll think they would fly closer to the inside or outside of the bend? my buddy said he would get closer to the river. what do ya'll think? here is a pic and a link if ya wanna zoom in. dogdoc
Re: NEED ADVICE! what an AWESOME looking spot. Let the wind dictate your decoy set up. I know this is basic but the ducks love to land with the wind in their face---keep this in mind when setting up your spot! best of luck--wish i was going with you! todd
browning_gold_12
Re: NEED ADVICE! thanks todd, i saw probably 50 woodies and 30 mallards last saturday during the split. never hunted it before, so i am gonna go where they were then! Palssonater
Re: NEED ADVICE! If it is possible, try to have the sun raise at your back so it is broken up by the bullrush you have pulled into. Too often we've done what the wind wanted and what was easier and set up where the sun came up across from us. Makes shooting difficult and makes you stick out like a sore thumb. double_drop
Re: NEED ADVICE! I would hunt right where the x's are because it looks to me the river bends up stream and the ducks normally in my experience here don't always follow the river and take the short cut across the trees. Give it a try.
browning_gold_12
Re: NEED ADVICE! well, wen went right where the first arrow is, the one pointing southeast. we killed 3 woodies. most of the ducks were around the bend from us. we wnt back into the cypress trees where it is closest to the river, and it was LOADED!!! i will be there tuesday morning!!
