RangerClay
Hi! My friends and I are planning an ice fishing extravaganza weekend on Lake Champlain in January. We are going to try to do a shore lunch on the ice. This will be a first time cooking on the ice. We usually have just sandwiches and jerky so we are going into new territory. Do you have any recipes for doing a shore lunch on the ice or just a shore lunch in general? Fire away!!!! Any suggestions will be helpful!! I know this borders on a Chuckwagon topic but not all ice fishermen hang out there. So please forgive for bringing this topic here. Thanks Ranger
muggs
Re: What do you eat on the ice? I normally take some home-made venison chilli out there. It's easy to heat out on the propane stove that we take out there. Other then that, fillet the fish you catch up and fry them on the spot, I think that would be hard to beat. Squirrelhunter91
Re: What do you eat on the ice? Usually, everyone brings out a variety of game meats & fish.. You can always count on someone having bear, obviously some venison and some small game meats..
Shaun_300
Re: What do you eat on the ice? Hmmmm this is a tough one, seeing how my fish shack is only about 1/4 mile, 20 second 80mph dash on the snowmobile to my grandma's house where there's some mighty good cookin' goin on! When I was younger I use to take a grill to put over the woodstove in the fish shack. I'd make toast on it, and sometimes I'd bring a frying pan with a bit of oil and cook french fries for lunch! The steam would be just-a pourin' out the shack... That doesn't help you much though. If I was going to have a shore lunch like you are, I'd bring some hotdogs, chips, cheese, that sorta stuff!
