native honeysuckle?

Will deer feed on this during the winter?

I've piled brush on some honeysuckle growing on my parents land and even threw some fertilizer on it this spring. The honeysuckle grew all over the brush pile making a nice place for the rabbits but the deer haven't been feeding on it yet.I also let the briars and saplings grow around this making a small thicket, probably 15-20 yard circle.

I found some more honeysuckle growing in two more places and I'll probably do the same as I did with this other area.

Ditto with these guys. Most of that stuff is not native and is classified as noxious by many states and the federal government. That stuff can take over quick, not only on your land, but other land when songbirds eat the berries, then crap the seeds all over. Most honeysuckle will take over and force out native plants.

Re: native honeysuckle?

Like others have said some of the varieties of honeysuckle can be very invasive. I have 80 acres that my parents bought in the early 70's. I remember as a kid this large patch of honeysuckle we used to go pick the flowers from. When I took the land over 4 years ago the patch was still there and still the same size it was over 30 years ago. I've never actually seen deer in the honeysuckle but have seen LOTS of deer sign in the honeysuckle--mainly in the very early spring and summer.

I tried transplanting some of this honeysuckle on the perimeter of my food plots---as soon as it starts to grow the deer mow it down.
