Spitzer Boattail Bullet

Here's a couple of pix of a 245grn Spitzer Boattail bullet retieved from a deer I killed recently. 150grns of 777. Head on shot. Entered in the chest, went through the entire body exiting near the groin, re-entered on the inside of the leg and came to rest under the skin on the backside of the leg.

I bet that was messy to field dress. Should have been able to open it up and let the insides just run out.

Seriously though that is impressive. I have yet to find one of my shockwaves to see how it holds together.

I've been using the 285gr version. A little hard to load in cold weather but my huntsman put 3 in one slightly larger than normal hole with 4 & 5 cutting the edges using 90grs loose t7 3f. I haven't shot a deer yet, but my buddy has shot 2, large wounds. The petals are very sharp not dull like lead.

I've got to see how you can use a plastic tip bullet in a muzzleloader without deforming it when you push it down solidly against the powder charge! Got to be a trick here somewhere.

Not really a trick, just use the right tool for the job. TC makes this thing.

I made my own out of a cut down .223 Rem casing and some epoxy. I cut the length of the case to a length that the point will not hit the web of the case. Its about 3/8" long. I drilled and tapped the primer hole to accept a 10-32 set screw that I used red lock-tite on. I coated a bullet with wax as a release agent and mixed some epoxy. I added epoxy to the brass casing and inserted the bullet. I used my lathe to keep everything centered but you could also get some 1/2" ID pipe and use the sabot to center the bullet. Install the loading tip on the ramrod and use tape to build up the OD of the rod to act like a bushing in the pipe to keep the rod centered.

It works very well. I have loaded bullets and unloaded by removing the breechplug and they look like they just came out of the package.

This little accessory is the best I've ever used:

Used the 285gr spitfire today on a cull spike 9'' beams. Broke near shoulder exited behind other shoulder. He stumbled flipped and flopped about 20yds. Shot was 60yds. Lots of blood but he wasn't moving very fast he was having severe difficultlys. I would give the bullet a A+. By far the most accuracte bullet I have shot out of my huntsman.
