double_drop
We have two older remington bolts action 22's and wow are they accurate. One is a 1980's model and the other one is a 60's or 70's model. I would take them over any of these new semi autos. For some reason they are consistently more accurate. Shaun_300
Re: What would you choose? I love the lever actions. We have a Browning BL .22LR, with a 3-7x Bushnell on it. I can drive roofing nails at 35 yards consistantly with it. that thing is deadly! We also have the Winchester Model 9422, it's chambered in .22 Win Mag, with a 3-8x bushnell. That is another very accurate rifle.
unioncountyslayer
Re: What would you choose? Can't go wrong with a Remington 597 semi. I've killed many a squirrel with it...very accurate. But if you've had success with the Ruger and like the way it shoots I wouldn't look much further. LETMGROW
Re: What would you choose? I have a Ruger 10/22 which must be the only one in the world that doesn't shoot well! Everybody raves about these guns. If I took it out tomorrow I would waste 5 shots sighting it in. From that point on it would shoot great all day long. Take it out a week later and it's the same process all over again! I have had three different scopes on this gun so I know they aren't the problem. In fact one of them is on my Remington 597 now. Out of the cabinet it's dead on.
AJ
Re: What would you choose? The main bonus to getting a 10/22 is the aftermarket items you can get for it. Its like the Chevy smallblock of the gun world. You can replace any and every part on it wtih aftermarket items. I have a pair of them that the only original part is the receiver and it has been modified. You can start with an out of the box gun and use it as is or you can tweak it until your heart is content. Mild to wild. For lever guns, here are some options on different guns: Winchester has the 9422 in 22 lr and 22 Mag, Browning has the BL-22 in various grades, Henry has a few lever rimfire guns, Marlin has the 39A, and lastly Ruger has the 96. hunterbrian
Re: What would you choose? i have a marlin 60 s a with a good redhead scope on it.... i swear to it but i would go with the 10/
muggs
Re: What would you choose? I have a bolt-action remington that was my grandfather's so it's at least form the 50's or earlier. It's dead on and out shoots my marlin semi-auto.
spyderpancake
Re: What would you choose? I have several Marlin M60's that are very accurate, but if i was buying a new semi i would go with the 10/22. Levers are a lot of fun though... Guest lilcrackshot
Re: What would you choose? I have an old (c. 1940's-1950's) single shot lever-action 22 Lr. It shoots great. Me and my dad shoot quarters at 35 yards or so with very good consistancy with open sights. Great little gun. Too bad they don't make them any more. too_pointer
Re: What would you choose? I went to our gun dealer to buy a 10/22, after me holding it up it didn't feel good to me at all. I looked at a Rem 597 and held that, so much better I took the 597 home with me. I read alot of comments on the 2 rifles, and most believe the 597 is alot more accurate than the 10/22 ! Mine has a bull barrel and I need a scope put on it, then I can tell just how good ( or bad ) it is LOL. Mike
Slugger
Re: What would you choose? T/C .22 classic or bench mark or a kimber. all insanly accurate. I have the t/c classic. averages around 1/2 in @ 50yds with top shelf ammo my very best for it is 5/16 with fed. gold medal match. thats out of the box 5 shot groups with a 3-9 ao scope. never personally shot a bench mark but i know kimbers are xtremly accurate as well. but really it doesnt matter what you buy its whatever you like.
