SW 1911

Hey fellas,

this is my first post in the handgun section.

My wife's christmas present to me this year is a new pistol. The cool thing is that I get to pick it out. I have decided to get a 1911 style 45. I found a good deal on a Smith and Wesson SW 1911PD and was curious if any of you guys have used this model. Any feedback (good or bad) will be welcome.

I realize that most of the pistol talk here concerns hunting, but I thought I would go ahead and ask (even though this gun will be a home protection and target gun)

Thanks

Re: SW 1911

I personally have no experience with the Smith & Wesson. I was able to find a review on the gun though:

In the 1911 frame I have a Kimber Tact Pro II. I love mine. I am not that good with a handgun, but getting better with practice. I was able to put 14 shots center mass at 25 yards with less than 200 rounds through my gun.

Good luck with the Smith.

Re: SW 1911

I took the new SW1911PD out for target practice over the weekend. It really likes the Federal 185 grain JHP Hydra Shok. I also tried some wolf brand 230 grain FMJ. The gun did not like this round at all. I am planning on trying some different types of 230 grain ammo this weekend.

This is the first handgun I have owned which is big enough to hunt with. I am considering using this gun to thin out the wild hog population on my grandfathers farm, what load would you guys recommend.

Thanks
