rossman
last year I killed a nice 6 by bull in N.M. The taxidermist called and wanted to know what pose I wanted for my mount. What do you guys/gals reccomend? Bugle pose or closed mouth? Any suggestions would be appreciated!!! --Rossman
whitetailtrax
Re: Which pose to use for my elk? I recommend getting a mount that closely mirrors what the bull was doing when you hunted him. Was he bugling at the time and is that a "picture" you want to remember forever? Was he sneaking through the trees with head down and antlers back? I think you get the point. Also take into consideration where you will be hanging the mount when it comes home. If you have a special place in mind then make sure the pose will look good there and more importantly will it fit in that spot! Good Luck with it! Guest Colorado Bob
Re: Which pose to use for my elk? Just my opinion but I REALLY dislike the bugling pose with the mouth open. It looks "phony" to me & I don't like the plastic look---open mount. For my bull I used the classic mount with a turn. I don't like the staight upright pose. 1/4 turn either left or right. Closed mouth. What part of NM did you take him in? Chama, Gila ? What did he score? I don't have a digital camera but I can snap a photo & send it to you via snail mail. fisherguy
Re: Which pose to use for my elk? Personally i like something that has the head down (like a sneak pose for a deer)to really show it off, with a slight turn. I would go to the taxidermist and look at pictures of elk he has done and see what you like and what will showcase that bulls features. Dakota
Re: Which pose to use for my elk? Personally, I'd go with the bugle looking up. That's how I'm gonna mount my SD bull (if I ever shoot one). lol
stevebeilgard
Re: Which pose to use for my elk? how big is your room, and how high. a big 6 point with the average 8'ceilig home, you'll have to mount it 2foot off the floor. thus, a low bugle mount may be best. is you have a high ceiling, maybe a heads up mount slightly turned left or right to show off his masculinity. buckee
Re: Which pose to use for my elk? Here's a nice mount I don't particularily like the totally upright alert mounts as much as the head down mounts. And like Steve already said, they take up a lot of room. Here's an interesting mount
fisherguy
Re: Which pose to use for my elk? The first picture buckee posted is exactly what i was trying to describe. That would be my pick.
