Sent e-mail. Will try to write a letter also.

Just couldn't bring myself to go to the meeting tonight. Stayed in a Director's meeting from 3 until 5. Drove home, ate, sat down and saw the clock said 6:30.

I talked quite a few of my friends into going so I'm pretty sure I'll hear about it tomorrow.

Same here Kev. I sent an email, then saw that an email carries the same weight as being there in person. I wanted to go, and was on my way, but 40 miles one way, in the dark, not knowing exactly where I was going. I really wanted to hear what the other guys were thinking...Hope everything goes OK.....

Well the meeting went about as well as it could have. The majority were against the extended muzzleloader and the electronic turkey calls.

Wildlife officials said that the ML extension and buck reduction were a package deal. The only way they would extend ML was to reduce the number of bucks.

Apparantly, like C5 mentioned there were several package deals.

I don't know if I like the check station thing. I think in my area it will only lead to more people harvesting more deer. The check station to me is one of the last lines of defense. I really hate the fact that I feel the next ten years of hunting in this state will not be as good as the previous ten. I don't know how the wildlife department plans on keeping harvest tabs without the check stations. I guarantee you the vast majority of hunters will not call in thier kills.

I'm not sure about other areas, but one main benefit for checking a deer in around here, was to have your name show up in the weekly "deer harvest". Now, with that in jeopardy, it will probably cause several hunters who would otherwise check their deer in, to just not bother.

I'd be interested to know what effect this change had on the other states that have switched.

One advantage to not having to physically check a deer in is making sure you get to a check station before they close. I know 2 years ago I darn near missed making it there before 9pm. What do you do say you shoot a deer close to dark, don't find it till after most stations are closed???

Yep. How do you think most spotlighters check their big deer in stiff as a board??

That is a good point though, Jason. In my area, the nearest check station closes at 7 on Sundays. The next closest station is 30 minutes away.

Illinois went from check stations to a call in system this last season. Even though I like taking my deer in to the check station and chatting with everyone I prefer the ease of the call in system. What your going to find out is the people that are poaching or not checking there deer in aren't going to change their ways but the people that do it right still will and the call in system is definitely easier IMO

I agree with need2hunt. It would save me gas and time not to have to drive to the nearest check station which is about 15 miles away because I mainly hunt my own property. In my case and many others it would make it easier to call it in. As for a check station being a last line of defense to poaching. I don't think poachers even care about check stations.

Re: Oklahoma Regulations Public Hearings (Please p

i would be all for a call in system. poachers are poachers so it doesn't matter how the check in system is to them. I shot a deer on thanksgiving day last year and wasn't able to check it in until the following saturday. i drove to 3 different check in stations and thursday and none were open.

I see you guy's point. I guess I don't have the same problem around here. The check station's only business comes from the hunters. They stay open until about 11 pm and are open everyday during the season. I have no doubt that the hunters on this board will be honorable.
