too_pointer
Re: .25-06 barrel for my Encore Hi. AJ's right, I have my 25-06 barrel and scope on order. I am going with the factory barrel, and crossing my fingers it will be accurate. The scope I have order is the Nikon 4.5-14x40 Buckmaster. Remember you will have the forend to replace also. I have a Boyds laminated stock on mine, and ordered the forend to match. With the holidays here I probably won't get it set up for a couple of weeks. Good luck with yours bud too_
tped
Re: .25-06 barrel for my Encore I wanted a stainless 25-06 for my encore but they just started producing them in a factory barrel. I bought a complete rifle in 25-06 rather than the barrel. I was just considering a 280 barrel myself and have not made up my mind. I have checked the Fox Ridge site and it appears you can get theri "custom" barrels in the $285-$325 range made in the length and taper you want. With most selling the factory barrels in the $250-$270 range, it would apper that the "custom" is a bargain. The dealer I generally use for my T/C stuff says he has been having a problem with tthe factory barrel sales because of the small price difference. He claims that the Fox Ridge barrels outside of special orders on length and taper are the same barrel. This being a 24" 25-06 barrel as factory and one from Fox Ridge would be the same barrel. Anyone know the actual truth. I do have a couple custom barrels and the say T/C Custom Shop on them and I can't tell any noticeable difference in their accuracy than a couple factory barrels I have. tped
Re: .25-06 barrel for my Encore I bit on the standard barrel last week and got one in stainless .280. Threw it together with a cheap Simmmons scope (all I had laying aroung while the new scope is on order) and headed to the range with some 140 grain Remington Core-loks ( all they had) Onced sighted had 10 shots in 1.5". I didn't think that was too bad considering the scope and ammo. I figure it will do better with quality ammo or reloads and the Nikon Monarch that is going on it.
