Guest bigbucks125
OK..now that all NY deer seasons are closed lets take a look back at what went on..i thought bow season was great...i saw alot of does and many smaller bucks and 1 big buck who i missed. i took 1 small buck with a bow. now..gun season was different..i saw 3 bucks opening day and then never saw a horn again, and i hunted very hard this season. It seemed like the bucks fell off the face of the earth. lets hear how all your NY season's went. did anyone not see any bucks like me and my dad? Nosdog2
Re: NY hunters Hunted hard up in NY and passed on some bucks in the early season. A decision that haunts me since my tag is still with me. Lot of does walked/ran by me however none took to my fancy. Still have another month to hunt in Maryland though. NY_Bowhunter14
Re: NY hunters I killed a button buck and a spike in bow season I missed a doe in gun season Gun season bacically sucked for me because I didnt see a single deer until the LAST saturday of shotgun season and shotgun season is like 4 weeks long... Bow season was very successfull with the two bucks I killed. I also missed a doe during bow season...
Swamphunter
Re: NY hunters I got a decent button buck with my bow and a nice 8 pointer with my rifle during the regular season.
Doc
Re: NY hunters What a crazy season! I got a pretty decent 9-point in bow season, but only saw about 4 deer throughout both bow and gun season. Shooting was light during gun season even though the state parking lots had more cars than usual. Doc
Adjam5
Re: NY hunters I saw ALOT of deer this bow season. Many does and about a dozen were bucks. Mostly small ones. 6's and under. I used a bow tag to take a non typical 6 that was injured. It was walking on 3 legs. It was an old deer that by all rights should've been altleast an 8 if he did not get injured. I also took a doe with my bow. I bow hunt primarily in 3R and gun/bow in 3H. Gun season was OK...I did not take any deer, but I saw alot which made sitting on stand no too bad. No doe tags for 3H this past season. I let 2 spikes walk during gun season and missed a doe during muzzleloading season(open sights ). But I fugured out it was a load problem. I'm no longer using pellets and I am back to loose pyrodex, 777 did not work well. My 14 year old son took his 1st deer this season also with the bow. It was a experience I will never forget. I had like over 40 sittings on stand this year, and did more hunting , mostly bow, than I ever did before. This was good season for me. longislandhunter
Re: NY hunters I'm still bowhunting here on Long Island, season ends December 31st. Got a nice 8 pointer in the middle of October and saw deer, bucks and does, during the season, just never got to tag another deer (not yet anyway). There were definately less deer this year in the areas I spend most of my time bowhunting, but that's because the farmer who owns the farm adjacent to the woods I hunt shot over 150 deer this year on his nuisance permit. Sad, but true, especially since he was only issued about 50 carcass tags. All the other deer his nuisance hunters shot were taken illegally. My hunting area is within my patrol zone at work, and I spend quite a lot of time working with the local DEC Officer trying to catch these guys with untagged deer, but they were always one step ahead of us. Very sad, hopefully next year I'll be able to catch them red handed and lock them up. On a happier note though on Long Island we also have a special January shotgun deer season that runs from Jan 9th until the end of the month, with hunting on weekdays only. I'll be hunting then too, so I'm hoping to fill at least another tag or two.

Turkeygirl
Re: NY hunters About the same for me bigbucks125. Got a deer with bow and saw a really nice buck 3 times during bow season, once right under my stand, but gun season, the bucks disappeared. I did get a deer with shotgun but it was hard hunting....there should be some nice sheds to pick-up in the spring:)
GWSmith
Re: NY hunters I would try to describe how most of my hunting season went...but I hate to depress people on a Holiday I'll simply tell you Where I hunted and let you figure it out: Oneida County, NY. (land of the DEC Deer Decimation Project) {I went out of state to WV and had good success}

NYBUCK
Re: NY hunters Well I guess I can't complain this year even though I thought it was going to be a horrible year. We weren't seeing any good bucks, just small ones but were seeing lots of does. That was good for me cause the last couple of years we werent seeing anything. Bow season came and went with just little buck sightings. Went to Illinois and saw four shooter bucks with no shots. Came home and figured I wouldn't have much luck. Gun season opened and I shot a big doe on opening day and then a coyote on the second day. Dec 4th shot a good 10-point (for our area) that made the season complete. Plenty of meat in the freezer. We have a few friends that hunt coyotes with dogs and I found out that last year they took a bunch off the property we hunt and I think they made huge difference in the number of deer we saw this year. beagleboy
Re: NY hunters Even though I connected on two smaller bucks, I didn't see the action that I normally see. Only one buck during the gun (3ptr) and that was it. Couple of does here and there but nothing major. Didn't even see a deer during the ml season. Very depressing year as far as seeing nice bucks. RangerClay
Re: NY hunters Northern zone, doe Southern zone, 8 point (legally 6 points) Southern zone ML, doe Saw very few deer up north. I literally saw hundreds of deer in the southern zone although 99% percent of them were does. Ranger
