AJ
Big bores are fun. As long as you're not deceiving yourself by saying you need it for anything in this country. Getting it because you want it, is perfectly acceptable. The .375 H&H is not bad at all. As I have mentioned a few times here in the past, I want a 375 RUM and I will be pretty much set on guns. I really can't see TC putting a .416 Rem Mag on the Encore, it will destroy the action. There is a reason the aftermarket stopped putting big rounds in the Encore, it can't take it. The Rigby is offered by Fox Ridge Outfitters which is the custom shop. Its a low pressure round like the .375 H&H.
David_218
Re: It aint big enough! I have an old Remington Model 722 rebored for the .458 X 2" American, that I've had since 1976. With full loads it is a real "Kicker" as my rifle has no recoil pad. I now use a lighter load with much less recoil. This cartridge is a wildcat load developed by Frank C. Barnes back in 1962, and is the basis of the .450 Marlin cartridge, except the .450 has a wider belt. Either one would be enough gun for any N. American big game. I do so need one for PA black bears and to turn back the occasional charge of a wounded bull woodchuck. If you've ever had to follow a wounded woodchuck into the underbrush, I think you know where I'm coming from.
tped
Re: It aint big enough! How is that 375 on the Encore. I've looked at it and heard it really thumps you. As you said and I concur in that one only needs 1 reason to purchase a big bore or any other gun for that matter - I want one and I can. What more do you need. I have a 416 Remington Mag and a 458 Lott -- I may never get to AFrica to hunt with them but I wanted them. Now I'm thinking on the 375. I was going to go with the Remington 700 XCR but now that they are readily available, I'm not sure I like the stock. Will probably wait until I find a Model 70 Classic Stainless as I would prefer the 375 in Stainless jsut in case it heads north to Alaska
tedicast
Re: It aint big enough! I just got a 45/70 barrel for my Encore. Wondering what the recoil is gonna be like. I figure it will make a great close range deer gun, and We have been talking about applying for New Hampshire Moose tags. I think the 45/70 will cover that. Thinking about having the barrel shoertened few inches, and having a break installed. not sure yet though. I want to shoot it first.

I really don't think you need a "Brake" or need to "Ported" barrel.

You know all those places we hunted the first day and found nothing??? They're crawling with bears right now and have been for the past 3 weeks!! My wife's uncle's flintlock crew kicked 3 out today. You can't walk anywhere around here without stepping in bear tracks. You tell me??????
