I used to have a . 22 mag and it never shot as well as my .17 I suggest you wait for AJ to respond. So in the interest of predator control as it relates to the deer herd management and which also impacts deer hunting as a result, discussions on weapons of control on this deer predator is a proper topic for "deer hunting" ......................................................... A .222 etc. could be a better choice especially if you plan to or currently do any reloading. Seems like the .17 HMR ammo is a little pricey, as is the .22 mag. But the 17 shoots faster, and flatter thant he heavier bullets. I can't find any charts right now, but I believe the energy at 100 yards is close to equal with both of them, but the .22 mag has a couple more inches of drop than the 17. I looked this all up awhile back when I was buying my 17HMR. If you really wanna do a lot of coyote hunting, you'd be better off with a 22 caliber centerfire. .222, .223 etc would suit your needs a lot better. But it would be a little more expensive. Anyone have any experience with that particular rifle? I have one, and it seems to have a fair bit of power. But I just haven't had a real good opportunity to thoroughly check it out. I've heard to many horror stories about 17hmr's on coyotes but for fox and smaller critters I'd say go with it. Thats the real question though, whats the intended target?
