What's your longest kill?

Re: What\'s your longest kill?

Mine was a 506 yard (per laser range finder) on a ground squirrel in California. I had 3 witnesses that watched me call and make the shot. I was shooting a custom FN Mauser chambered in 6mm-06 Improved, shooting a 75 gr V-Max bullet. I have had lots of kills on squirrels in the 300-400 yard distances with various guns in .223 Rem, 22-250 Rem, 25-06, 6mm Improved, and .243 Win.

Re: What\'s your longest kill?

Well, I'm actually the proudest of a shot that missed. Earlier this year, I tried a 1500 yard (est. - too far to read with a Leica LRF1200 range finder) on a coyote with a 7 mag. Talk about sheer guess work - I've never tried shooting beyond 500 yards, but I gave it my best "Kentucky Windage" and held over about 10 feet and touched one off. I saw the round in my scope impact the ground dead on line and about 3 - 4 feet short. The yote took off, but the other 2 that were with him just kept on hunting mice. They were so far away that the shot didn't even bother them!

Re: What\'s your longest kill?

486 steps on a small groundhog with a .300 Win Mag

455 steps on another groudhog with a .220 Swift.

Those were both in the days before rangefinders were compact or affordable. I don't know exactly what my steps figure out to be in yardage. I'm 6'2" tall. I know they were a long darn way.
