Re: Gutting a deer with leather gloves on?????

I guess I am another Non real hunter. I have allways used gloves. Why? Mmm just to be cleaner I guess, never really thought of it as a man thing or a gross thing, just always used the gloves. My buddy is allergic to deer dander something fierce and HAS to use them or he is in a world of hurt.

you guys do realize that some deer a few years ago carried a disease that was spread through the deer's blood, even though i gutted my deer this year w/ bare hands you might want to take this into consideration, just cause I care.

Latex gloves work great. No need breaking through ice to go rinse your hands off in freezing cold water. Then you have to get into your truck with still partially bloody hands. Might as well save yourself the trouble and thow on a pair of cheap latex gloves, and keep your truck and the rest of your gear blood free. Obviously if anybody on here (except for those with the alergies) would gut a deer bare handed if they forgot their gloves, but it sure keeps things a lot cleaner with gloves

i like wearing gloves it keeps you cleaner and if you happen to stop and talk to someone it makes you look better and it makes hunters look better because they arent all bloody

I use full legnth plastic sleeves. I used to go bare hands always, but some hunters have been infected with blood born pathogens, through a cut on the hands, and DIED from it!!... just looked up at the last post...ok there ya go (07)... right on!! Id rather live to hunt another day!!

Well, here's a thought. Supposing he's looking at his arrow and noticed that one of the blades is missing. A leather glove may not be foolproof, but it sure beats jamming your hands blindly into the body cavity without knowing just where that blade may be.

I've always just taken my chances, but it may turn out that this guy was a lot smarter than all of us.

Re: Gutting a deer with leather gloves on?????

Well, i see no problem gutting deer barehanded i have been doing it all my life. CWD is not contracted through the blood, it is in the cerebral spinal fluid found in the brain, or more prodiminantly in the spinal cord. Also rabies is not contracted from blood pathogens, it is found and passed on by an enzyme that is found in an animals saliva. ..However there could be other blood born illnesses however, i dont knwo about you guys, but how many times do you just get blood on your hands, be i get in up to my elbows, I am a healthcare provider and "borrowed" a box of latex exam gloves once for deer hunting, it was a waste of time, blood was all over my forearms, and the gloves got plenty of holes in them do to bone fragments. .........The best bet to avoid blood illness, is to carry a small bottle of STERIL or CASTILE soap, it is an alcohol based water free hand sanitizer, we use it in the hospital and it has been found to be 20%more sterile than regular soap.
