Re: hottest 22 lr load ?

Unless I'm mistaken the Super Maximum 22lr loaded by Aguila is the hottest currently on the market. This load throws a 30gr hollow point out the muzzle at 1750fps. I've run these over the sky screens of my chrono and get 1730fps out of a 6" Smith revolver. You should see a little higher velocity out of a rifle length barrel.

Didn't Federal & Remington have a hyper load. Reminton's was a Yellow-Jacket & Federals was called "Viper". i don't know if they still make them. I used them for a while on prairie dogs. They were not real accurate for me---so I weent back to the straight hollow point. I think all they did was shave a few grains off the bullet to incease the speed.

How about in a SA Revolver???

Well, since I really can't say I have ever seen a semi auto revolver, I take it you mean a single action revolver, yes you can shoot them in it without damage or premature wear.

The wear comes from the bolt slamming against the pin at the rear of the action. I have seen Ruger 10/22 guns that had egg shaped or oval holes from the slamming of bricks and bricks of CCI Stingers.

CB,

Yep, Remington's Hyper Veolcity line included the Yellow Jacket and the Viper line. The Yellow Jacket ammo used hollow points and the Vipers were identical but used solids. Remington still makes them. Federal now has the GameShok hyper velocity 22 lr ammo.

Re: hottest 22 lr load ?

Like I said, I definately recommend using a Shock Buffer on a 10/22 or any blowback action. It will soften the blow the receiver gets and prolong the life of the gun. I have them on all of mine and I don't shoot hypervelocity (hot) ammo in my guns.

They are fine to use in any other type of gun, be it pump, bolt, single action, etc. Semi auto is the only style I don't recommend prolonged usage of them in. A box or a few boxes over time will not hurt the semi auto either.

I have not had much success with great accuracy using the hyper stuff. The Stinger, while fast, shot terrible groups in my guns. The Yellow Jacket hollow point was decent, not great. The same with the Viper. I have not played with the Aguila ammo much.

Now you got me thinking about the buffer since I just bought a brick of the Rem. Vipers for the 597 crazy.gif

I have never even heard of a buffer till now.

me neither. from what i have read it will make the gun quiet too ! cause there is no metal on metal contact.

Re: hottest 22 lr load ?

FT300,

Yep, that is a version of it. I did my own by using some rubber tubing wrapped around the bolt stop pin. The tubing is not easy to install as it has to be done in the receiver. Be sure it is thin enough to allow the bolt to be drawn back and locked open. This is a commercial version from Wilcon Combat its the one on the right. It softens the blow the receiver gets from the bolt.
