New meat grinder review

Hi guys and gals,

Santa was kind enough to bring me one of the new Gander Mountain brand meat grinders for Christmas. Santa brought me the model that is 800 watts and 1 HP. I shot a black powder doe last week and so I put the grinder to the test.

The first thing I liked about the grinder was the price. At $99 (Santa bought it at 20% off) you would think it's a little cheesey but all the components appear to be top notch. The Cabelas 1 HP grinder is $238.

Second the grinder came with lots of extras including three plates and tubings to make my own sausages. It also has an attachment to make kubbe, whatever that is?

I ground 12 pounds of meat last night and it ground the meat effortlessly. I rarely had to use the poking pole they gave me. All I did was push the meat down the hole and it did the rest. I had the 12 pounds of meat ground in less that 15 minutes.

All in all I am very happy with this new product and I thought I would share what I learned with you all. Happy holidays everyone.

If you got a 1 hp grinder for $99 you definately did good.

AJ,

Actually it was 20% off the $99 sticker.

I have put the grinder away in storage so I cannot answer what the output is exactly without getting out the manual. All I can say is that it chewed up meat as fast as I could pour it in. I would DEFINATELY not call this a commercial grade grinder like the Cabelas grinder in your link which I see weighs a whopping 58 pounds shocked.gif Mine does have a reverse switch like the Cabelas and it has a circuit breaker in case a piece of bone gets stuck inside.

I noticed that Gander Mountain is starting to offer their own line of meat processing goodies this past month. They have devoted a section of the store for this stuff. Everything from mixers to cubers. Just about anything you would need be professional venison processor.

Re: New meat grinder review

Glad to hear the grinder is working well for you. I broke down just yesterday and ordered the 1 hp commercial grade Cabelas grinder for myself. I was tired of borrowing a friend's grinder for the 3 to 5 deer I butcher each year, and he was probably getting tired of it also. smile.gif It's a big chunk of change, but I expect it to last through my and my son's lifetimes, butchering anywhere from 2 to 6 deer each and every year.

The attachments for the grinders are very cool too, although more expensive than the hand operated tools. I haven't decided on the meat mixer yet because I haven't decided if I want to try to make my own sausage and salami, but I plan to buy the jerky slicer and cuber before next season.
