Opinions on CZ

I'm getting ready to scratch an itch and buy a new rifle. I'm hunting in a county that has an ordinance that doesn't allow rifles larger than .22 caliber for hunting. I want to get something for varmits, foxes and maybe the occasional coyote (there are more and more showing up every year). Not concerned about pelt damage. Population control (and fun) is the goal. Also, not looking to spend a ton (aren't we all).

Anyway (to make a short story long), after looking, reading and asking around, I've kinda settled on getting a CZ 527 Varmit in a .204 Ruger (more factory ammo choices than the .17 cal). My understanding is they are great guns for the money. At around $500 it allows me a little more room to spend on good optics.

Opinions from anybody who owns a CZ?

Re: Opinions on CZ

I have a pair of CZ rifles. I have the 527 American in .222 Rem and a 452 Varmint in .17 HMR. Both are good quality guns. The 452 varmint is a sweet shooter.

The 527 American (and Varmint) has a single set trigger. It can be used as a normal typical trigger with a pull weight of about 3.5-4 pounds or you can move it forward and the mechanisim is "set". The trigger pull is now about 1.5-2 pounds. The trigger is decent. I prefer a standard trigger adjusted properly, but its not too bad.

It uses special scope rings/mounts that are not made by everyone. Mine came with a cheap set of Millet. They work alright but I would prefer something different llike the Leupold standard 2 piece mounts and rings.

The detachable magazine is the one thing I don't care for. I don't like them in rifles. I would prefer a hinged floorplate or even a blind internal magazine, but that's my only real gripe about the gun.
