Guest Andrea
Okay....it wasn't quite daylight. I had been sitting there for about 30 minutes. I was trying not to doze off so I thought I'd slowly look around behind me to see if a deer might be trying to slip up on me. I turn my head slowly and my heart jumps up to my throat. Yes, for about 2 minutes I had a staredown with a liittle yaupon tree. Go ahead and laugh and poke fun. But I SWEAR.......that darn thing looked JUST LIKE A DEER standing there facing me. Then the sun rose............. Boy, I sure felt like an idgit.

snapper
Re: Eyes playing tricks???? Yep...there is a certain time in the morning where every log, stump, tree etc... looks like a deer. I think we've all been there before.
Hoosierbuck
Re: Eyes playing tricks???? They do that frequently. It seems that the eyes get a little bit of information, and the brain fills in the rest with what you want to see. This is a dangerous condition, and when you get in that spot-remember to identify your target!! I have never shot at something I thought was a deer, partly because I am so dang afraid of having to hang my one buck tag on a little spiker, so I need to know that it's not only a deer, but a whopper or a slick head-nothing in between. Tominator
Re: Eyes playing tricks???? I stared at a branch for about 2 hours swearing to God it was a Canada goose down in a creek once. Now mind you, that "goose" never moved, but I swear it looked like a goose, and I was pretty sure I was going to harvest my first goose with a bow. I guess you know the rest of the story. oo_buck
Re: Eyes playing tricks???? Been there...... Just this past Monday..... saw a "deer" moving through the weeds......... Hooked my release to the bowstring, and got ready.......15 minutes later still no deer, shortly after that, I found my "deer".....nice size clump of weeds blowing in the wind..... Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Eyes playing tricks???? There's only two types of deer hunters. Those that have stared at bushes and thought they were deer, and those that lie and say they've never done it!

hutchies
Re: Eyes playing tricks???? Few years back I swore I saw a doe's head come out from behind the tree. There was an oak right on the side of the cedar. The squirrel was on the back side slowly moving and down the tree. I was seeing his tail. Guest fourtrax_300
Re: Eyes playing tricks???? lol, yeah every time i hunt in the morning i see stumps, logs and rocks that appear to be deer. whats bad is when you have done it so much that you see a deer and say to yourself"thats just a log or something" then it moves ! lol

TOMSD5
Re: Eyes playing tricks???? my first deer hunt was the same hg...i thought some small pines in a grass feild were deer feeding to me ...the wind was blowing and the trees swaying which made them look as if they were moving....yep i was scared to death even climbed a tree which was not allowed in michigan back then...then i got light enough to see clearly and i thought gee wizz....but thanks for reminding me of my first deer hunt ever.... A limb with a leaf twitching on it has made me think I saw horns and a twitching ear a thousand times. Kind of a fun mistake to make though.
