AJ
Re: need input asap Thanks Both are good guns. I would not get the scope combo unless you have a buyer for the scope. They are junk. I have both Win 70 and Savage bolt guns. With a little tweaking both are good peformers. The Savage is more flexible as it can be rebarreled by just about anyone. The Winchester has better astetics. Flip a coin. Both have the piece of crap injection molded stock. The Savage probably has the Accu-Trigger, if you like that. Personally, I like the Savage as I can do just about anything with it. Curious, what problems are you having with the 17 HMR?

Of course Winchester is as old as time itself.... I'd say whichever you choose, you will not get a bad gun.....
johnf
Re: need input asap Thanks Like AJ said either gun would be good, but those scopes aren't worth squat. I would see if I could find a similar gun that wasn't a combo, then get a good scope for it.
Guest Colorado Bob
Re: need input asap Thanks Get the Savage. That new Accu-Trigger is nice. Every Savage I've seen has been a shooter. Plus you can change the barrel + have another rifle. With this short action--no reason you can't put on a 308 barrel---if you ever decide to hunt elk or black bear. The scope is not of high quality but it will work fine until you have enough money to get a leupold. Savage is my choice . CB
Slugger
Re: need input asap Thanks another vote for savage. i have a model 12bvss in .243 and love that thing the accutrigger is all youve heard and more. in my opinion you have a great chance that the savage will be a shooter right out of the box
Guest ronin
Re: need input asap Thanks I would get the Savage for the trigger alone. They are very accurate out of the box and the new accu-trigger really works well. I've bought and shot Winchester, Browning, and Savage this year alone. My Savage is by far the best shooter. BTW, there is a Savage Model 12 BVSS-SXP that comes with a laminated stock, HSS barrel, Burris 6-18X38 scope, and aluminum hard case in a real nice package deal. The Burris scope is far better than the normal combos seen.
Guest ronin
Re: need input asap Thanks The normal Savage synthetic stock is not that great. Functional and that is about it.
