Guest finsnfur
I am new to bow hunting. I like the feel of many Hoyt bows. I am also looking at used bows. How far back could I go to buy a used bow that is still reasonably new and worth the money? I am unsure as to which I need, want is another question. I hunt in Illinois, farm land that also has 100 acres of woods. I am 5' 11", 230 lbs, so i am not small. What do you think? I would like to hear all opinions including those of using a different brand. thanks.
Chrud
Re: Hoyt - what model Shoot several brands. I thought Hoyt felt awesome...until I tried a Mathews. As far as how far back to go with a Hoyt...you might want to look at a CyberTec or XTEC. They are pretty similar and about 2 or 3 years old, but still have the Cam & 1/2. I had an XTEC and it was a nice bow.
arrow32
Re: Hoyt - what model Dont listen to Chrud hoyt is the way to go. No he is pretty smart on what ive read any way. I agree with those two. I love my hoyt.
Guest finsnfur
Re: Hoyt - what model you suggested the cybertec and xtec. i was looking hard at the ultra tec? never shot one? or are these others better?
arrow32
Re: Hoyt - what model I have an ultra sport and love it the cybertec never shot one so i couldnt tell you. But the ultra tec is a good bow.
buckee
Re: Hoyt - what model Well, I'm still shooting my old Mathews Feathermax, and it's around 10 years old, but like new. If a bow is taken good care of, it shouldn't lose it's value much at all.
EKYhunter
Re: Hoyt - what model I do think you should take a look at the Mathews line of bows. Like buckee I shoot an older Mathews (Q2) which I ordered new in 2000. It's a sweet shooting machine. Mathews comes out with new flagship bow each year so you get a lot of guys trading in/selling practically new bows at this time of new. I'm not trying to discourage you from Hoyt (There awesome) but you should definitely try a Mathews and I think you like them very much if you do! MUDRUNNER
Re: Hoyt - what model Depends on what your after. When I was in the market(before I bought my Bowtech Liberty )I made a list of things I wanted out of my bow.I wanted an average axle to axle(around 34"),adjusteable let off,and a decent brace height for forgiveness, and wasn't worried to much about speed.I gave the Razortech a pretty good look. Guest finsnfur
Re: Hoyt - what model What I want; I do not care if the axle to axle is short. I would prefer an adjustable let off that reaches at least 70%. The most important thing to me being accuracy, I want to be more accurate than fast. So I guess brace height jumps to the top of the list.
Guest nebraskahunter
Re: Hoyt - what model I have owned couple of hoyts and love them.,tried a mathews didnt feel good or shoot good for me. personally I would try to find a ultra tech or a pro tech they both shoot very well and are pretty forgiving. I have a cybertech now and really like it ,but for a beginner would recommend one of the other two. There are alot of good bows on the market try some other brands also. Hope this helps
Guest finsnfur
Re: Hoyt - what model one more question to ask. what pound draw do i need. do i need to go to 70 or is upto 60 fine? i am able to draw both now.
arrow32
Re: Hoyt - what model Either one would do fine id go with around 60 or a little more you dont want it to be to heavy or it could cause problems. After sitting in stand you can get kinda stiff after a while ive had this happen last year. It stinks.
VtBowhunter
Re: Hoyt - what model If you're able to draw both then go with the 60-70 pound range. I currently shoot the Hoyt Vtec, and I love it. Tony will probably chime in here soon with his love for the Ultratec. Any Hoyt will serve you well. Tony
Re: Hoyt - what model Thanks for the toss VT . i have 2 Hoyts that i shoot. i have a 03 Protec with cam .5 and XT 2000 limbs.. it is the bow i shoot for Indoor target and Field archery competition. it has a 8 1/4 inch brace height and is 37 1/2 inches axle to axle. speed is pretty good with arrows that match the bow. i shoot it right around 285 fps. this bow is top notch for anything you want it to do but for me it is in Flame color so i use it just for target competiton. my second bow is a 05 Hoyt Ultratec . it is in 60 to 70 lbs and has XT 2000 limbs . its brace height is 7 inches and is 37 1/2 inches axle to axle . this bow just plain out Rocks.. its in camo , so i use it for hunting and 3D . i shot mine all summer for 3 D competition and then used it to shoot my biggest buck ever. set at 63 lbs it shoots a 375 grain hunting arrow right at 283 fps . i found out last year i shoot a longer axle to axle bow a lot better. plus if you look hard enough you can find a 03 or 04 Ultratec in camo pretty cheap on either Ebay or Archery talk classifieds. if you are interested in one try to find a local pro shop that will let you shoot any of the Hoyts. they all shoot really well . if your thinking aobut a used on try to stay with one htta is 03 or newer. that way you get the new cam and a half on them. i have seen a few 03 Ultratecs go on ebay and Archery talk for around 400 bucks. hers a fews pics of mine.. the first one is the ultratec with the bowhunting gear on it. [image][/image] the next is the competition 3d setup on the Ultratec [image][/image] the final pic is my Hoyt Protec with the competition setup.. [image][/image] try a few of them out . im sure any Hoyt you decide on will not only be quiet , but as accurate as you will like. Shoot Strong Tony

VtBowhunter
Re: Hoyt - what model If money is an issue and you have your heart set on a Hoyt, you might want to concider the Reflex line also....they're the more affordable line of Hoyt. Guest Dub
Re: Hoyt - what model I shoot an 'O5 Protec. I absolutely love it. It is the sweetest shooting bow I've ever tried at this poundage....80lbs...but yet she is very quiet and well mannered....the heavy XX78's that I prefer just scream out of there...stacking up nicely at all practical ranges. That being said, I just ordered a Trykon XL a couple of days ago. The main reason I did this is that I have a couple of out of state trips planned for next year and I want to have a back up bow ready to rock with the same arrows. I looked around at some of the lower cost options for my backup but ultimately decided to go with another Hoyt. The craftsmanship and technology used in these bows is outstanding and their limbs and limb pockets are bulletproof. I agree with some of the other suggestions for you to look at the BassPro & Reflex lines as they are made by Hoyt as well. There is not a thing in the world wrong with the Mathews, in fact I know a few guys shooting them and they love their bows....all virtually silent. I would also recomend that you give the Bowtech Allegiance a whirl. That is one efficient bow...perhaps more so than anything on the market. Make sure that you get fitted at a couple of shops to ensure accuracy. Shoot many different bows and make your determination. Good luck and enjoy the search.
