Re: how bad is this hit??

Matt,

I suspect, he possibly got a kill shot on that deer, but you won't find a blood trail with a shot that high. The cavity of the deer will fill up with blood first.

He could have nicked the top of the lungs or the liver, no problem.

My other thought is, that there is a "very" narrow spot, just below the spine and just above the lungs, that would result in the deer possibly surviving, but I would put some effort into looking for him, just to be sure.

Re: how bad is this hit??

how high was he in the tree and how far was the shot....That makes a BIG difference...If he was 20 feet up at 20 yards that buck is dead bar none.....If he was 10 feet up and 20 yards then he might have gotten that dead spot.....Please don't put too much stock in the dead spot area....I really think that buck is piled up....GL finding him!

Re: how bad is this hit??

my buddie saw him alive today and chasing some does. he said that this buck is doing fine and he is going to keep his eye on him. He said he is going to let him live. He has outlawed this buck on his land. I personnaly would take him but i am not my buddy. I will try to nock so sense into him but he will do what he wants. He was shot from only ten feet up and i guess the shot did not do much damage. He said he has a cut where he hit him but he is sure the buck will make it.

Why would yo not wantto shoot a deer that is definately injured, that you had already shot once? He may be alive and well for the moment, but there is a good chance that if the wound doesn't kill him, infection will. I see absolutely no reason to not take this buck. If he was good enough to take the initial shot at, he shoulddefinately be taken if given the oppurtunity.
