Swamphunter
I did this last year about this time when I saw a lot of posts about how beautiful the snow is and how people wish it would snow down south. Don't get me wrong, I like winters to a certain extent, and I could never live down south as I like to watch the seasons change, but I have come up with something that I think is kind of funny and is in no way meant to offend anyone. After all, I couldn't imagine living with deadly snakes and spiders. It is just a few of the numerous realities of winter up north as opposed to what people think about winter. Of course you southerners could do the same thing in reverse to us when we are wishing for it to warm up! Here it is.... feel free to add to it Icicles – Translation – Icicles on the roof are not pretty, it means your house is poorly insulated Beautiful white snow – Translation -turns brown and crappy looking once mixed with dirt and grime from passing cars Dusting of snow – Translation -means you’re going to pull a back muscle shoveling it 2-4” of snow – Translation - means your wife is going to pull a back muscle while shoveling it 4-8” of snow – Translation - means you need to spend hours behind a snow blower or attach your plow to your truck 8” and above – Translation - start the generator, fire up the woodstove, get some blankets and flashlights ready, and get comfortable, your cable and power will be out for awhile Snow plow is coming! – Translation - means you now have to shovel the end of your driveway again, or have the wife do it. Brrrr its cold – Translation - pay ungodly prices for home heating oil, burn through your wood and/or pellet supply, hope you have good insulation so you don’t have ice dams on your roof, and those pretty icicles. ICICLES are a precursor to ICE DAMS!! Ice dams will cause water to back up your roof, under your shingles and it WILL find a way into your bedroom or living room. I like to shovel snow – Translation - Emergency rooms are busy as shoveling snow causes heart attacks and kills people I like the cold temperatures – Translation - frost heaves everything that is not 4 ft down in the ground (literally), causes pot holes (rough on your vehicles alignment), and breaks buried water mains causing flooded streets and no water. Cold temps kill people also. Oh look at the ice on the trees. Translation – Ice on everything else also - Power lines down, cars in the ditches and people injured and killed Oh don’t get me wrong, I like winter, just these are hazards that a lot of people who don’t live in the north ever realize. Like leaving your bathroom fan on with the door open…sucks heat out of the house, causes furnace to run and costs more money.

AJ
Re: Once again this year... While all of those are true, at least the Northerners are decent at driving in the stuff. The idiots south of the Mason Dixon Line have a hard time driving when its dry out let alone when the white stuff falls.
Newarcher
Re: Once again this year... You are from Virginia......you can't figure out which side of your own butt you want to kick! You are living in no man's land up there....not Northern not Southern. I have no problem driving in the stuff, it's everyone else. You have the white knucklers that are hitting their brakes constantly vs the people who actually speed up in it! Touche. New

New [/ QUOTE ] You know your from the north when you can cruise at 55- 60 mph in 6 inches of snow, with one hand on the wheel, changing the radio station and scanning for deer out the side windows without batting an eye. Or if your a lady, putting on makeup while cruising in the stuff. Also if fishtailing around a curve is as good as turning into it!!

Palssonater
Re: Once again this year... Ha Ha Ha. Gotta come to where the snow is up to your chest. Untouched by road salt and tires. Where its so quiet you can swear you can hear the Northern Lights. North is what I love! I got a 4x4, what's a shovel? ha ha.

Strut10
Re: Once again this year... It was almost 50 degrees here day before yesterday. Everyone was all "Boy!! Isn't it nice out, today??". Noooo....... theres slush and melt water half way up my boots. There's piles of ashes where they've melted out of the mountains of snow the plows had stacked up. The landscape is three lovely shades of dead..........four if you count "mud brown". Where it's "nice out", there are flowers blooming and people are mowing their lawns. Seasons schmeasons!!! I'm a native western Pennsylvanian and I despise winter, snow, ice and the cold. Gimme a good old-fashioned Georgia winter any day!!!!! wtnhunt
Re: Once again this year... Well Ken, we dont get too much snow here but we do get more than our share of ice and freezing rain. I would take a nice 4-8 inch snow over the ice any day.
