AJ
Well, not sure if you realize it but NEF/H&R 1871 have been doing this for years. They offer an accessory muzzleloader barrel on shotgun and rifles. Of course the best bet is to buy a rifle so you can get any rifle, shotgun (except 10 ga), and muzzleloader barrel they offer. Its better quality than the cheapie imported Euro guns also. The Sportsman's Guide still has the Knight Disc Elite 50 cal in blue for $220. Your line about I don't want to spend a lot incase I don't like muzzleloading is bunk. Why would you get some cheap thing to see if you like the sport? get a good quality gun (that may not cost any more) and give it a fair chance. Since you enjoy handguns (your forums name), get the Encore as a handgun and get a ML barrel for it. If you don't like it you can sell the barrel for minimal loss if it has been taken care of. You will still have the frame for handguns, shotguns, or rifles.
reward
Re: CVA Optima Elite.... Here's my 2 cents. I've owned all 3 guns, an optima pro magnum, an encore, and a H&r handirifle with an a 50 cal huntsman barrel among other barrels, and the h&r is as quality as the encore and cost me less than the cva. It shoots better than the other 2 and has a better factory trigger than the cva. The handirfle frame came with a monte carlo laminate stock that I find just as comfortable as the other two. I would buy either the cva or the h&r before the encore. That will probably fire some people up but from my experience spending $600 on an encore wasn't worth it. I'd take my handi any day! plannerman
Re: CVA Optima Elite.... I've got the NEF/H&R and an Encore. A buddy shoots the CVA. I'd take the NEF, Encore and then CVA in that order (if those are the only 3 options). The NEF handles extremely well and has shot like a dream in its first season. johnf
Re: CVA Optima Elite.... Another vote for the NEF/handi here. I was looking at the Optima elite at Wal-mart the other day. They are $100 more than the handi and the the barrels were more too. Why spend more for something that isn't proven yet? You can get a handi rifle, put a nikon pro staf scope on it, buy your ML barrel and put another pro staf on it and still spend less money than your bare Encore is going to cost. tp793
Re: CVA Optima Elite.... I have the optima pro, and my brother has the encore. From what I can tell the CVA shoots just as accurate from the same distances and has yet to be outperformed by the encore. Not sure about the other one, but if it came down to CVA vs. Encore, I would go CVA.
stick
Re: CVA Optima Elite.... I have the optima pro, and I love it! I have not shot any of the other two guns but from what I have seen at the range my optima pro shoots just as good if not better. I like how the cva feels and shoots.
