Hillbilly
I'm gonna plant "Secret Spot" from the Whitetail Institute. Fro one end to the next its about 250 yards from both ends. We also have 2 bottoms beside the log roads that might also provide a good place to lay down the seed. Will also put some on a ridge right next to the logging road. My dad and myself talked about it just this morning and will start this early spring and clear out some small trees and rake out the leaves. I want the deer to feel more comfortable on the ridge. The only bad part about planting it on the logging roads is that a lot of rubs over the years have been on the logging roads. We are thinking about taking all the small trees and putting it up somewhere for the deer to have a thicket close to the feeding areas. Any opinons and input on this would be appreicated big time. Thayer
Re: Log Road Planting. (Need your input and opinions) Can you get in there with a lime truck? I would start by liming the road and discing it in...if possible. I would also get some soil samples and try to get your roads up to proper ph and fertlilizer levels... How much shade are you going to have on the roads...some mixes require 6 or more hours of sunlight. Sounds like a good idea, just go the extra mile to do it right.
