VtBowhunter
I was pretty happy to see a new hunting related store open here in the area back when it did, but after spending some time and money there, I'm beginning to have second thoughts. The guys that work in "The Lodge" don't have the first clue about archery gear or bowhunting. I went in looking for stuff for competition shooting, and when I asked them if they carried or could order any Stabilizers around 30" the guy looked at me and said "They make them that big?" Then I'm looking at what they do have and notice the SVL Modular stab. and it's marked at $19.99, when I know darn well that things sells for $59.99 everywhere I've seen it. I had to find a manager to tell him of the error, because the goofs in that dept. had no idea what to do. I seriously thinking of seeing if the manager wants some part time help. I'm going to hate to see what happens when these guys actually have to work on a bow.
ilhunter1986
Re: Dick\'s Sporting Goods dicks sporting goods employ a bunch of *****. i work at gander mountain and there is a dicks across the road and we have so many people complain about the service that they get. so if there is a gander mountain around you i strongly recomend you to go there
arrow32
Re: Dick\'s Sporting Goods Yea ive been to a dick's dont like them very well. And if they couldnt price somthing they will kill someone working on a bow.

NY911Bowhunter
Re: Dick\'s Sporting Goods Your BEST bet is to see your local PRO Shop Tech. I like Dick's for sale items - never any work. Kinda same thing at Gander - but they have indoor ranges.
magnatecsteve
Re: Dick\'s Sporting Goods The one by me isn't toooo bad. Never had them work on my stuff, I leave that to my pro-shop, but when I would ask some questions, their answers were somewhat legitimate since they are all hunters and actually take interest in what they do. After all, it IS a RETAIL store, whattid ya' expect??

preacherman
Re: Dick\'s Sporting Goods Went into an "Outdoor Store" today......not Dicks, but something similar. Looking for my wife a bow and the guy working in the sporting goods section looks to be no more than fresh out of High School and indeed not capable of being the only one in a department. I asked him about a particular PSE bow and he picked it up and then dry fired it! He said, "Oh, well, maybe it didn't hurt it!" I just shook my head and walked off. Hoyt03
Re: Dick\'s Sporting Goods Dicks around here has all the basic neccesities and such, and is a pretty good store. If I'm looking for specialty bowhunting items your best bet is with your local proshop.
Guest fourtrax_300
Re: Dick\'s Sporting Goods well we dotn have a dicks around here but we have a place called dunn's sporing goods , they are rude to you when you go in there. i asked if they had and guns chambered int he .204 ruger and he just said " yeah" and most places i have been will be like yeah want to see them ? or something. i only go there if i cant find it at walmart or cant wait to take a trip to gander mountain. snapper
Re: Dick\'s Sporting Goods The few Dick's sporting goods stores I've been in seemed to have good prices. But I also rate these stores with any other "retail" store...I'll shop there, but won't ask anyone who works there a question!
VtBowhunter
Re: Dick\'s Sporting Goods Don't get me wrong here, I would NEVER let anyone but me work on my bow, I just think they're selling themselves really short by not having qualified employees there. tedicast
Re: Dick\'s Sporting Goods I'll go to Dick's to buy something, knowing what I want. Definately not a place to go and ask questions or advice. As for their prices, on most hunting items they are the same as, if not cheaper then walmart. Actually getting ready to run their now. All camo left in stock 70% off today!!!

We recently got 2 Dicks stores as they bought out a store by the name of Galyan's. I told my wife "watch, within 2 or 3 years, they won't even carry hunting stuff anymore, and they'll be another sportmart." And it's already starting, they don't carry handguns anymore, and don't carry too many rifles either. I got them to knock off over $100 on my Benelli because they didn't have a qualified gun guy behind the counter. I told them that another local store carried the same gun for $800, and he matched it. . That was back when it was a Galyans, and it's even worse now. I got a pair of Steiner Predators for $80 2 years ago.

"Any Monkey can tune a bow" but not every "monkey" can tune it correctly. I agree with tedicast and the others, I go there knowing what I want and not looking for answers. snapper
Re: Dick\'s Sporting Goods 9point...I don't see any reason for you to be getting upset (ALL CAPS)...its not like Vt was bashing you! There are a few folks who work at Dick's, Gander Mt., Cabelas, Bass pro etc... that have some knowledge. However, as awhole...a local pro shop would be better option to have things worked on or ask questions. But even some "pro shops" don't have knowledgable people working at them either. VtBowhunter
Re: Dick\'s Sporting Goods Funny, 9point, I don't remember saying anything about you or the store you're in. In Fact it would be a great feat for you to travel from Ohio to Vermont every day for the past 4 years for a job. I don't care who's bows you tune or what you know about them......good for you and your customers. I've been dealing with bows af all kinds for the past 25 years between shooting and working on them, and I shoot competition so much it would probably make you sick, but what I want is go into a store and talk to a person that's "supposed to" know what they're dealing with and have them actually know it. If you do that's great, but those who don't shouldn't be in the business, and only make your employer look bad.

TreeStandBowHunter
Re: Dick\'s Sporting Goods We have a Dicks up here in Worcester. I only been there one time and the time I was there the prices were more than Cabalas in some things. The store had alot of stuff but I think they jack the prices up like EMS does JMO
