puffy
Re: Dick\'s Sporting Goods Well at least you fellas have choices, be it good or bad. Around here the choices are but one, unless I travel south about 1.5 hrs. to the next city. Even there the choices are limited. I sure wish we had more retailers or pro shops to choose from. A little competition would be a welcome change.
Straight Shooter
Re: Dick\'s Sporting Goods 9point, it sounds like you do have experience with working on bows and that is great for that store you are working at. You are correct in the fact that Dicks is a chain store. I've got one close to the house here in NC and it'll be a cold day below ground before I get one of those guys to touch my bow. My opinion is if your going to have a hunting store, at least have people who know just a little bit more than most of it's customers. The same applies for ALL hunting/outdoors stores. Doc
Re: Dick\'s Sporting Goods Dick's is a retail sporting goods store. That includes hunting, fishing, golfing, basketball shorts and running shoes and any other of the thousands of items that can be considered "sporting goods". Why would anyone expect their people to be expert archery pros? They have racks of stuff just like walmart and any other store that sells a variety of stuff. If you like the price, buy it. If you need someone to work on it, take a trip to your local pro-shop. I don't think I have ever heard them advertise that their salespeople are subject matter experts. They know just enough to answer a few very basic questions and tell you if it is in stock or not. Heck, the guy in the archery department may have just stepped over from selling hockey skates or golf balls. What do you expect from these people? maytom
Re: Dick\'s Sporting Goods [ QUOTE ] Your BEST bet is to see your local PRO Shop Tech. I like Dick's for sale items - never any work. Kinda same thing at Gander - but they have indoor ranges. [/ QUOTE ] I agree. I just go there for the sales only. If I need anything done with my bow, I take it to the Pro-Shop where I bought it. They don't pay those people who work at Dick's that well, and everytime I go in there, I always see new faces. Big turn-around with their sales people. They also aren't really set-up as a pro-shop, maybe that's why they charge less?

ksbowhntr77
Re: Dick\'s Sporting Goods Yah, we have one here in Topeka. I think that the name of the store is a requirement of its employees. They know all and you know nothing. I get soo tired of know it all salesmen who don't put in near as much time afield as anyone else.
Rayzorp
Re: Dick\'s Sporting Goods I agree with straightshooter,, Dicks by me stock fair in small archery items,, usually beat Bass Pro and Cabelas price,, but I wouldn't trust them with my bow,, lucky for me my pro shop only a few more minutes away,, One thing I always use Dicks for is permits and licenses,,
