texastrophies
Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT License Question???? Are the OTC licenses for a specific unit or for all unlimited units for that season?
silvertip_co
Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT Unlimited only refers to the QUANTITY of licenses for a specific unit. An OTC unlim bull elk tag is for a specific unit only, like unit 55. Except there are OTC unlimited STATEWIDE archery elk tags and unlimited statewide turkey tags and some others similar. I know this is confusing but when you read the lead in pages for each species you need to read 'every word' to understand what it is you are buying or applying for. EMail me if I can help, or better yet email the DOW, their answers will be correct and official. I wont steer you wrong, but sometimes I misunderstand too and I am a resident. http://wildlife.state.co.us/About/askdow/ They usually answer in a few days. Good luck guys. Guest Phaseolus (BeanMan)
Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT TexasTrophies, Over the Counter Bull Unlimited Licenses are good in any unit during 2nd and 3rd rifles EXCEPT for units which have no unlimited seasons. There is a list of them and an explanation on page 24 at the top of the middle column in this years big game pamphlet. Only Three Units touch 55 that you can't hunt in and two of those are south of the Gunnison river. which is a long way away. The other unit, 56, only touches 55 at a single point and you shouldn't have to worry about it. You may hunt unit 55 and most of the surrounding units on your general license during 2nd and 3rd rifle. The RT hunt is 2nd rifle. You are good to go. Sorry that there has been confusion, Beanman

They are valid in all units except ....... I read that as the license can be used in more than one unit, as long as the unit is not in the "excepted list". Was thinking about maybe slipping over to 54 and giving it a try also, if 55 gets a little to crowded.

buckee
Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT I have a few questions too. 1- Is fly fishing the only way to legally fish down there in October, or do they allow spinning rods, etc. ? 2- How easy is it to get a non-res. fishing license ? [/ QUOTE ] Don't know about the spinning rod question, Steve, but to get a non-res fishing license you have numerous test both written and physical to prove you know how to fish, where to fish, when to fish and what you are fishing for. In the physical test, you actually have to go out with a flyrod and catch 5 fish within 1 hour before you qualified to receive a non-resident fishing license. Guest Phaseolus (BeanMan)
Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT Method of fishing varies according to what wter you are fishing. the Taylor River is fly's and lures only so yes you can use spinners, just not bait. Taylor park Reservoir is open to all methods including bait. It all depends on where you are fishing. BeanMan
