Guest Phaseolus (BeanMan)
Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT Colorado Elk draws are now posted. http://wildlife.state.co.us/Hunting/BigGame/DrawResultsAndPrefPoints/ I drew my third choice "meat in the freezer" tag. Cow elk 4th rifle in unit 41. I had hoped to draw the either sex tag for the same season as a 2nd choice and still get another point since last year there were leftovers. But, hey, I get to hunt straight out of the house and will most likely be eating elk. Good luck, Beanman

silvertip_co
Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT- TEXAS LAKES,CO I scouted Texas Lake on topo maps Steve(Beilgard). My plan is to get up there this weekend and camp/scout to see what is to be seen. I hope to camp right at/near the lakes as I got sumpin I need to look at nearby. The BO guys (my other great friends from Elkatraz) tell me I can drag my 19' camper over Cottonwood Pass pretty easy. I'll prolly let it up there for a week and get it the following weeknd. ALso hope to meet up with you last week of June when you come to scout. So if all goes well I'll try to get to see the ol place the next two weeknds. I hope to get fotos also and post tho my postin skills is minimal.

buckee
Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT- TEXAS LAKES,CO Can anyone tell me which watersheds (lakes, streams, rivers) we will be close to camp to fish in? I have the complete Colorado fishing regs book all printed up and wanted to look things up to see which fishing methods will be legal there and in which streams, lakes, etc. ??? Thanks Steve

Thanks Steve [/ QUOTE ] Taylor Park is a bit like a glacier cirque in that many streams feed in from the high country that rings the area. But mainly the Taylor River feeds out of it into Gunnison. There are other streams in the Park, Texas Creek, Spring Creek and some others. Google it up on GoogleEarth and you'll see what I mean. If you need a town name to look for use TINCUP to orient your map then back off to see how huge the Park is. Steve Beilgard has been to Texas Lakes soem time back abns suggests that as our camp site area, it is almost due east of Taylor Lake a few miles. Also if you go to Google then click on Images then type in Taylor Park Colorado or Cottonwood PAss or Tincup or Pitkin you'll get to see some fotos of the places. Elevations seem to vary between 8000 and 14000 feet dependin on how good your legs and lungs are. Good luck.

Guest Colorado Bob
Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT- TEXAS LAKES,CO A fishing tip------the browns will be on their beds in the fall. Here in the Animas, I take a silver rapala & pull it across the deep holes. They will come up & smack it---HARD. They are not feeding but getting it off their beds. I found the 6" one to be the best---3 treble hooks, Silver & black. Put a couple in your tackle box just incase. CB
Guest Phaseolus (BeanMan)
Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT- TEXAS LAKES,CO Yup a silver and black Rapala Shad Rap 5R will slay them that time of year. especially on the Gunnison. Guest Phaseolus (BeanMan)
Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT- TEXAS LAKES,CO VTH, I tried a lure that ratteld and it scared the trout right out of the water. I'd stick to the standard Shad Rap. I like the buoyancy idea though. BM
