stevebeilgard
Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT josh, did your airliner have one wing or 2? lol. luke, i got tent space. we'll just whittle down a stick and put some string on it. dig your own worms. i'm mostly a flyfisherman, but do have some spinning gear. fishing is mostly for trout, 6" and up. bigger ones are a few pounds. not quite like my alaska place, where i've used 5 pound baits. lol but, lots of fun anyway. come on out, and we'll have a good time. and if you get josh's 1/2 price tickets, there may be room for the wife. unless you don't want her.... Hey Man the wife stays behind,,, she gets to go to Florida every year alone,,, this one is all mine....if we can swing it.... I just want to get out and meet some people... silvertip_co
Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT A few pointers from a CO resident. You WILL save time money gas time and aggravation by flying in to Springs instead of Denver. Tickets are more to go into springs but its not worth the hassle to go to Denver. Get a two stop or three stop rt ticket and it'll be as cheap as it gets. You need to get tickets at least two months before to save the money. I did a lot of number crunching using 2004 statistics and unit 55 is great for mule deer and elk. NW Colo is better, but its 300 mi further and is full of ranches. Unit 55 should be mostly NF and BLM land. most other units in central and sou colo fare lots worse in kill numbers than unit 55. If you guys that may come have specific questions pplease email me and Ill answer as well and stright as I can : [email protected] I live in Pueblo and work in Durango so I get to see lots of sou colo. Guest Phaseolus (BeanMan)
Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT Silvertip, That's one heck of a commute, gotta be 4.5 hours or so one way on dry roads. Pueblo to Durango sheesh. I know housing is expensive in Durango but hey you could have found a closer place to live. Beanman

Guest IBO_bowhunter
Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT Great idea! I would probably be more interestad in the gun season than bow. (although bow is my passion). First time ever elk hunting I would like for the odds to be on my side a little bit more which I think the gun would help in that case. It really does not matter to me one way or the other though.
elkoholic
Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT A $500.00 round trip ticket from Burlington to Colorado Springs is pretty darn cheap, especially if it is non-stop. If you take into account the cost of flying a jet (it will burn $500.00 in jet fuel just getting off the ground) it is no wonder the airlines are all going bankrupt. It cost my wife and I $2,300.00 for round trip tickets from Montana to New Jersey for my mom's funeral last September and these were discounted internet purchases, although they were purchased on short notice (the airline did not do discounts for a death in the family). It should be a great time for all on this hunt, so, just do it.

Pueblo to Durango sheesh. I know housing is expensive in Durango but hey you could have found a closer place to live. Beanman" To live in Durango means a 10k salary cut for me and a 16k salary cut for my wife, also my 200k home here near the shores of Pueblo State Park would cost over 600k in Durango. I can buy a lot of gas for those differences in salary and overpriced unreal estate. I dont mind the trip. I see lots of elk and mule deer, sometimes by the hundreds. THAT makes it all worthwhile. Hope to see you all in unit 55, or where ever you pick for the ADVENTURE. Incidentally unit 55 had near 600 elk killed in 2004, not 128. 2005 numbers not in. Oh by the way, "Hunter kill" ratio means nothing, its total kill that shows herd population. Thimk.

stevebeilgard
Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT well, it now appears that we have more interest in the rifle season, which is oct. 21-29. looks like you better plan your vacation time around that. if this turns out as good as i expect, we can maybe plan an archery for a year or 2 later. but, it now appears that the october hunt is what the most want, so let's do it! VermontHunter
Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT Did some more flight checking and with a few layovers I can save about a $100 or so,,, but is this really a savings considering the time lost waiting for connecting flights ???? Man I hate lay-overs 3-4 hrs,, in a strange aiport isn't exactly fun.... Make's me wish I still had military connections.... I'm definately going to keep looking and trying.. billkay
Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT Is there a general non res hunting lic that is required in addition to the elk tag? Also, is a scoped muzzle loader with sabots legal during rifle season? I know it isn't during regular m/l season.
Guest Phaseolus (BeanMan)
Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT billkay, There is no additional license required, just an elk tag. I just reread the regs, it says saboted bullets are illegal during muzzleloading season and so are scopes but it doesn't mention using them during the regular rifle season. I'll call them tomorrow and ask for clarification. Beanman
