huntinsonovagun
Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT Beanman- Do you see elk that size pretty frequently? I'm still trying to decide if I'll be able to swing this financially. Could be the only time in my life at a chance for a guided hunt at this price! Great pictures.... Guest Phaseolus (BeanMan)
Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT I see a few good sized elk every year, mostly as they are escaping through the timber at long range. keep in mind this is in areas I know fairly well. I get one about every third year. Beanman

Guest Phaseolus (BeanMan)
Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT Billkay, I called our local office and they said, "exactly what it says in the big game pamphlet". Which I told her it was not exactly clear. So, I have sent an email to the Denver headquarters asking for clarification (two days ago) and am still waitng on them. we'll have an answer soon I hope, Beanman
Reloader
Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT [ QUOTE ] FROM THE BIG GAME BROCHURE II. Muzzle-loading rifles and smoothbore muskets, provided the minimum caliber shall be forty (.40) for all big game except elk and moose. The minimum caliber for elk and moose shall be fifty (.50). All muzzle-loading rifles and smoothbore muskets from forty (.40) caliber through fifty (.50) caliber must use a bullet of at least 170 grains in weight. All muzzle-loading rifles and smoothbore muskets greater than fifty (.50) caliber must use bullets of at least 210 grains in weight. a. During the muzzle-loading firearms seasons for deer, elk, pronghorn, bear, and moose only lawful muzzle-loaders and smoothbore muskets may be used by muzzle-loading license holders. b. During the muzzle-loading firearm seasons for deer, elk, pronghorn, bear, and moose the following additional restrictions apply: 1. Propellent/Powders: The use of pelletized powder systems and smokeless powder are prohibited. 2. Projectiles: Sabots are prohibited. For the purposes of this regulation cloth patches are not sabots. 3. Loading: Firearms must load from the muzzle. Firearms which can be loaded from the breech are prohibited. 4. Sights: Any muzzle-loading rifle or smoothbore musket with any sighting device other than open or “iron” sights is prohibited. [/ QUOTE ] The initial paragraph (II) is the universal regulations for use of ML rifles or muskets during any season. The following (A, and B and subsequent numbered) paragraphs specify they are only regulating the ML seasons. This means the the first paragraph limiting the calibre and bulet weight used is the only paragraph relevant to the regular rifle season use of ML rifles. So if you want to use a .50 cal Savage 10ML-2, with modern smokless powder, 209M ignition and 170+ gr sabot bulets, topped with a 4-20x50 tactical scope...you can! Not sure why you would want that scope on any ML but you could use it if you so choose!?! Nothing definite yet for my plans but I am still interested in coming I may just fish or I may bring a rifle or 2...can't decide yet. Either way it sounds like a Blast! Nice pics bean man...they sure spice up the interest even more!
AJ
Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT Good digging James! Why not have a 4-20x50 on a ML? It sounds logical to me. Actually 3 of my ML guns wear 4-16x44 scopes.
