Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT

Been scouting maps and aerial fotos for a week, I think we should all camp at Boston Peak on Spring Creek Reservoir which is NW of Taylor Lake, or Mirror Lake which is SE of Taylor Lake up near the Divide. Both places look real Elky onthe aerials. Once we decide on a spot let me know and I will make a scouting trip to the area some weekend.

Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT

Just signed up for the hunter's education course since I gotta have the certificate for the elk hunt. They say the class is full but that they have a high "no-show" list. I'll be taking the combination on-line /traditional class. Supposed to start March 14th.

Wish me luck. cool.gif

Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT

Something else I thought of, for you all who will be buying or applying for your tags online: HAVE ALL YOUR INFO IN FRONT OF YOU "BEFORE" YOU BEGIN. The online apply does 'time out' and if you goof around looking stuff up to fill in the blanks then you'll have to start over...allthe way over. Make sure ythat you have your four choices selected ahead of time too as theres not time to be looking stuff up and thinkin bout waht you wanna do for tags and draws once you start the application process. In 2003 I timed out twice and it took me two hours just to apply for one set of tags. Tjhe second set took 15min cause I had it all figgered out by then.

And dont forget your hunter safety info. If you don't have a recod of it your state DOW or DNR surely does. Or retake the course, yalls might learn somethin. smile.gif

Good luck. Lemme know how I can help.

I need someone to finally clarify what all us out-of-towners HAVE to do and in what timely manner do these things need to be done.

I was told we would be purchasing the tags over the counter. So can we buy these tags once we get there??????

I know that this is still 8 months away but if there are deadlines that have to be met or applications for these tags that have to be submitted then I would think that that info. is pretty critical.

Help??? confused.gif

Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT

Huntin Girl,

True the Bull Elk tags are OTC. However if you have never hunted Colorado before you will have to contact the DOW and get a Conservation Certificate number or CC#. This CC# will the be your "identity" to Colorado DOW. You use that number everytime you apply for a tag or buy licenses. The certificate itself becomes your license when you get the tag. There are 7 or 8 spaces on the back of the certificate for you to put the sticker for the tag that you have. When a certificate is full you just request a new one. I hope this helps

Aha.............see something else I wasn't aware of. I have been trying to read the regs. for Colorado but sometimes it's hard to determine exactly what is required of non residents. confused.gif

Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT

Why in ythe world would a person want to stand in line to buy OTC tags when you can get them online??? Huntign season is short enough in CO without spending the preseason standing in line. I have stood in line, for two hours, wife has stood in line for three hours and still didnt get to head of the line. No we do it online, no waiting. smile.gif The requirements are the same.

Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT

Buckee,

Fishing isn't dictated as much by time of year as location. Different stretches of water have different regulations. If I remember right they are called like gold, red, and blue ribbon water. Each designation has a different set of regulations. Some are fly only, some are spinning, catch and release, slot size limits, etc. Anyway it's more about where you fish and not when.

Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT

The CC ticket system is over and done. You will get an individual blue tri-fold tag/license for each species you buy a tag for. The long green CC tickets went out the window when the DOW went totally online. ALTHO some people still have them and do use the old CC numbers. We have them, the wife and I, and we use them but only to apply or to refewrnce in our emails to the DOW. Others do not get them and use their cyurrent DL or SS number, I think.

Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT

Silvertip,

When did they do away with the CC#. I had to have mine last year when I applied for my preference point. Plus how are they going to track points now they were being assigned to CC#'s. One other thing, you said totally online. Are they not sending out regulation and application books anymore?

Re: THE GREAT COLORADO ELK HUNT

Got ya, I've been applyijng for points since 2001 and not buying licenses. I really didn't pay attention but my CC# was changed to a different CID# when I finished my house and moved last time.

On another note, I read somewhere back in the thread that this was an unlimited unit and to shoot the first bull seen. Area 55 has the 4 point restriction on does it not?
