chromage
Yesterday I scouting and hunted a new spot. I thought incase I go to a diff. college next year I should start planning ahead for next season. I found a good run way and set up. However, I forgot my string to bring up my bow so I had to bring my bow up with me while using the climber. Was that ever a chore. Made a ton of racket and knew I wouldn't see anything. That's alright though! I got my final hunting fix for the year and can't wait to get out and do some scouting this spring along with some shed hunting. Today I woke up to rain and watch the weather like a hawk. I wasn't going to go out but I figured, what the heck. If I don't hook anything I will just come home early...HA My first spot where I had been doing alright didn't result in anything. Right when I was about to move down two fly dunkers stepped into the hole I wanted to fish. I decided to wait them out. After they left I made a cast into the hole and "kaplup," bobber down, and FISH ON!!! This fish put up a heck of a fight and is one of the prettiest steelies I have ever landed. Fought like a fall run. Double striper! I love this pic By the way it fought and having no fin clip, I want to believe it was a natural. Next hole, I had the problems. Lost bobber, tree catching my jigs, and no fish. I moved on! Next hole is one of my favs. When I got there a guy came by runnin his dog. He asked whether is had any luck and before I answered, the bobber shot down. I don't know how I hooked this fish because I had way to much line out. I finally felt the fish when my pole was all the way behind me. The only problem was my line was wrapped in my zipper. So I grabbed the line, set the hook, and untangled my zipper. Thank god I still had the fish on. However, he founght like a log and came right in. Hatchery steel fight great, don't they, lol. Fun none the less. I didn't think it would get any better, but was I in for a surprize. Just when I started to get ready to move on the bobber shot down again and I was into a hot fish. I didn't think I was going to land this fish. I had logs about 60-70 yards down and she almost got there. She was a stubborn little girl. I though at first I had a salmon. Finally she was in and I was surprized to see no fin on her either. All fish hit small white bags. Had a bobber down after that but missed it. THat's alright because I was exhausted. I made my way back and looked at my clock. I was suppose to be home at 5 for new years ever dinner. It was 5:30, oops. That's about all i've got. Think i'll take a day off tomarrow and fish all next week...can't wait!!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!

Guest finsnfur
Re: Perfect ending to 2005 when i go to WI i fish SE rivers. Seems as thought the quality of fish are a little different. and not to mention that the rivers are so low that they freeze up usually by the middle of Dec. let us know what bait you are using when you report. i am mostly a fly guy myself when it comes to steelies and salmon, but would like to hear what you use. maybe it might get be back to the dark side to bag some fish. hahaha. anyways, thanks and keep'em coming for those of us who are far from open water and yearning to see a chromie walk on the water.
