ILSNIPER1
It's getting close to that time again.. the antlers are going to start dropping soon. I posted this last year a little late so, I thought I would make sure I got it on early this time. Here is what I used to use to collect/find them. It's easy & cheap to make. Good luck, Phil B. Here is the top view. Here is the side view & the materials needed to build one.

HitRmisS
Re: Shed Antler Trap. do you think it would work down here in the warmer south climate since the deerare not as concentrated in the winter and early spring as they are up north
rockefeller66
Re: Shed Antler Trap. we thought about doing one of those, our only hold backs were that the tree rats would go to eat the corn and nibble on the sheds and we wondered if the bucks ever get tangled up in one? Guest fourtrax_300
Re: Shed Antler Trap. it's illegal to feed the deer here so i wouldnt want to get caught but it's a neat idea.

[/ QUOTE ] I don't know about that. I think its legal to feed as long as its not in season. I think baiting laws say bait has to be removed 10 days before season. I don't see why this would be illegal.

bowhnter16
Re: Shed Antler Trap. I think it is illegal to feed at all now that they are worried about CWD. I thought I saw where one could not feed at all because it makes the deer congrigate and if one of the deer did have CWD they could spread it to the rest of the group. I am not sure though I would ask the local CPO.
Bownarow
Re: Shed Antler Trap. It is definitely ILLEGAL to bait at any time during the year in the state of Illinois. It was not always the case, but the "no baiting" law was added a couple of years ago. I'm not sure why it is a law around here but it is(CWD is all i can figure). I've used that same setup with the fence and feed, to collect sheds, but have had to quit due to the recent regulations.
Tominator
Re: Shed Antler Trap. That's pretty cool. I've seen the ones with feeder trays too, the ones that have a dowel placed over the trough, when the deer put their heads in, the dowel knocks off the antler. Gonna have to make me one or two of those.

MUDRUNNER
Re: Shed Antler Trap. Yea,it's illegal to feed wild deer in Illinois no matter what time of year it is.I used to put out corn and supplements starting in February and into April, mostly to put some weight back on the deer after the season and get the does ready to have their fawns.I think it was about 3 or 4 years ago the DNR made it illegal, to keep cwd from spreading, since it spreads through siliva. It is kinda a bummer for a lot of us,since cwd has only been found in a handful of counties over the last few years. Tominator
Re: Shed Antler Trap. I set one up today and threw some old corn in the corners. We'll see what happens.

toddyboman
Re: Shed Antler Trap. I have two set up, with corn around them. I also have cameras near them. Doesn't seem to bother the deer yet. The bucks I have seen near them still have there antlers attached so we shall wait and see.
