knobby
I was out making sure my Traditions Tracker 209 .50 cal was sighted in yesterday morning and four shots into it, the primer went off a flame shot out the side and wam the powder didnt burn causing the bullet to not be shot, i was like what in the world was that all about, i pulled the bolt back to find out that the primer nipple was blown to nothing and the breach was cracked on both sides, i couldnt believe it no sign of it before any of the other shots and i looked it over good just last weekend when i was cleaning my gun after an afternoon of shooting, i got to talking to my brother and his did almost the same thing, but just the nipple broke in 4 pieces in his, i called all the large sporting goods stores in the area and no one had the part, i have today and next weekend left for late muzzle loader here in iowa, so i was bummed and knew i wouldnt find a part anywhere around, so i ran into scheels yesterday afternoon to find the CVA Optima with the nickel barrel on sale for 199.00, so i bought one of them, mounted my simmons 3-9X40 on her, bore sighted it to get me on paper at 50 yards and went to sight it in, at 100 yards, i put all three shots in a chew can sized circle and i am very impressed with the CVA, no more bolt actions for me break actions only. knobby
Re: Traditions exploded yesterday After every use i clean them as you are supposed to do and check all pieces over, i cleaned the breachplug, looked it over after is was clean, and put it back together and put in the hard case, sounds defective to me since my brothers did the same thing at the primer nipple

AJ
Re: Traditions exploded yesterday If a fouled breechplug caused that, you must have some extremely powerful primers! Nope, that was not the problem. What loads were you shooting? How old was the gun? Bolt action ML guns are perfectly safe, its what you started out with was the problem.
