c_lou
Personally I think if Green Bay can get Mariuci, Favre will come back. He was his QB coach in the mid 90's.

buckbuster11
Re: Head Coach openings.... Mariucci is the only one I feel sure will get another head coaching job before next year. Green Bay does sound like an intriguing place for him. If Herman Edwards can get out of New York he will be in KC. I've heard Dan Reeves name mentioned as a potential coach for Houston although I'll believe that when I see it. As for the other jobs I bet most of them are filled by coaches that are currently coordinators. Guys like Jim Fassel, Russ Grimm for the Steelers, or one of the Colts coordinators will probably get serious looks. Btw--Pete Carrol just signed an extension with USC..he isnt going anywhere for a while.
Nick
Re: Head Coach openings.... [ QUOTE ] Detroit- Anyone who they have now! Fire the president to, if you can, and while you're at it get rid of Joey Harrington and keep Jeff Garcia. [/ QUOTE ] Are you kidding me? Garcia was worse than Harrington!!! Hes old and washed up. I think the Lions need to get rid of Garcia, keep Harrington, and get a middle aged QB whos had some success in the NFL whos can show Harrington the ropes a little better. As far as management...........the Fords need to fire Millen then sell the team to somebody whos willing to put a little money into getting some better players on both sides of the ball. Something interesting about Thompson. In his confrence today, he never answered why Sherman was fired. He said this year had nothing to do with it. Thompson seems very cocky and arrogant. A lot of speculation is that he wants his own guys in GB. Plus, he never liked Sherman.
VtBowhunter
Re: Head Coach openings.... Mick, you really need to quit while you're behind......every time a football thread pops up, you're spouting dribble that makes absolutely no sense............When did Pete Carroll decide to enter the NFL? Last I heard (today's press conference) he had no wish to leave USC..........Favre still hasn't stated what he'll do, but you insist on putting him in a home when he can still out perform most QB's in the league............Mike Sherman to the Vikings? If he goes to any NFC North team it will be the Lions. He handles QBs well and has great receivers to aid him there. Good lord, you probably agree with most of what the idiot Skip What'shisname spouts off on ESPN Cold Pizza during their 1st and 10 segment. Now there's someone that knows ZERO about pro sports. Nick
Re: Head Coach openings.... [ QUOTE ] Joey Harrington is washed up. He's lead them to how many playoffs? Exactly...zero. Get rid of him, he's been in the league for four years now and it's time that they released him or he should take a backup job [/ QUOTE ] Seriously? I live in Michigan and have followed the Lions my whole life!! How can Harrington already be washed up when he hasnt even had a chance to develop or had a quality vetran QB to develop with!!! Garcia is old and brittle as it proved in the preseason when he broke his leg. If you would have watched the last couple games the Lions have played....Harrington showed signs of progress with putting up a good battle against the Steelers throwing for 3 TD's and leading them to a comeback victory against the Saint. When you start following the Lions like I have my whole life and getting your facts straight.....come back and argue with me....

If the Lions would do that with Harrington I think he could be a decent QB. If you want the lions to get rid of anybody, how about that glass jawed Charles Rogers? or the Bumbling Idiot Matt Millen. IMHO Former Players never make good Management, they think too much with there hearts and not there heads.

He Should be Banned From the League For Wrecking a Team Like the Rams with as Much Talent as they Had when he took over. He Out Coached HIMSELF???? I heard Minn Might Be Interested in Martz. Hope SO!!! Then I Can Hate Him & The Vikings Oh Yes, The Vikes, The Team I Love To Hate!!!!!

Garcia was a good veteran QB and knows the system and knew marriucci...he was the perfect veteran for harrington to learn from....but harrington just isn't an NFL starter...he's shown that he can come into to games as a backup and play decent when he has nothing to lose..but put that pressure on him with a backup fighting for the job and he blows it....he sits to long in the pocket and get sacked and makes the O-line look bad....doesn't make quick decisions...and makes bad passes way to often...i say keep him....trade for a higher draft pick and get another QB out of the draft then sign another veteran 3rd string QB and when they find a coach...hopefully he will change out of the west coast offense because that just hasn't worked for the lions... markyj987
Re: Head Coach openings.... There've been some murmurs about Andy Reid coming to Green Bay...I wonder if his contract is up in Philly?? If it's him, I think Favre might stay. As far as Ted Thompson's demeanor is concerned, I just think he was trying to be detached--where everyone knows that Sherman was fired PRECISELY because of the record. People gave Sherman heat over his stint as GM, but I really think his downfall was refusing to fire Tom Rossley year after year. Sherman's a great coach though and I'm sure he'll be re-employed shortly.
