Rabbits 1/1/06 & 1/2/06

Recommended Posts

Alright folks.. me, my dad and my bros are all back safely from the first hunting trip of the new year, and may I say, we were successful? My dad's buddy Dave came up with his kid on Sunday night and slept over for today. Yesterday we got up there around lunchtime, hunted the afternoon for crows and rabbits. My bro took a shot at a crow, but missed and then the crows shut up after that. Then we went to the spot where I shot a rabbit last February and it proved to be productive.. two days in a row. So yesterday, we are walking around, jumping on brush piles, trying to get a rabbit to flush. I get one to run out, but he just runs into his den inside another brush pile, so no such luck on that one. Then about 10 minutes later, my dad see's one run across the trail and into a spot where a tree fell and brush overgrew it. He tells me and my bro to set up on the sides, we do and he flushes the rabbit out. It runs between us, no shot for either of us, then it clears both of us and at this point, I already have my bead on him and leading.. BOOM! That rabbit took possession of some Federal #6's from Dad's Mossberg 835 12ga. That was it for Sunday.

Then today, we headed back to the same spot with Dave and everyone. We were walking around for maybe 10 minutes and I get to this one brushpile, set up Dave and spin around to the other side and tell Dave that I'm pushing towards him. He says ok and as soon as I jumped on the brush pile, a rabbit flushed.. I yelled " Rabbit! ". Dave turned and shot, it looked like a good hit, but it only wounded it.. So then I got set up on it and shot it. Down. I delivered the killing shot so it was mine. Sorry folks, no pics. No pics because of a certain deer swimming incident that happened almost a month ago. laugh.gif So I shot two rabbits in two days. I'm loving it. This year is already proving to be good and it has just begun. Happy New Year to all!
