Canadian_Goose
Got a remington 710 .300 win mag for Christmas, not bad gun. Santas a pretty cool guy, i just dont believe the $30 Bushnell Sharpshooter will hold out on it. So these are a couple of the scopes i am looking at. -Leupold VX II -Nikon Buckmasters -Nikon Monarch All in 50mm objective lense. will these hold and can i get away with a 3x9 power or should i opt for the 4x 12 thanx
kooter
Re: Gun for Christmas need scope i have a nikon buckmaster in the 3 x 9 x40 and it seems like a decent scope. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the choices you have listed
Shaun_300
Re: Gun for Christmas need scope Those scopes that you listed are all great scopes, but a little on the pricey side. You can get a decent quality Bushnell scope for $200 or so if money is a bit of an issue. I find the Bushnell Trophy scopes are awesome scopes for around the $200 (Canadian) mark. I'm pretty sure they only come in the 40mm recticle though.
johnf
Re: Gun for Christmas need scope All those would be great. I would get a 3-9X40 though just to keep the scope lower to the gun.
too_pointer
Re: Gun for Christmas need scope A 3-9x40 Nikon Buckmaster should run around $200. I have a few and like them. too_
Guest J_Owens_66
Re: Gun for Christmas need scope Go with a 40mm objective. It can be mounted lower, its lighter, and the 50mm is only brighter at higher magnifications. With the 50mm, you have to mount higher, have more weight, but you have a wider field of view, and brighter at higher mags. but i doubt you can really tell the difference when looking through a quality scope. The reason being is the human eye (at young age) can take 7mm. So a 3-9X40 at three power has about a 13.5 mm of light coming through, so that is how a 50mm is brighter at higher mags. I am a big burris fan. Their Fullfield II 3-9X40 w/ free binoculars is the best bang for the buck in my opinion (200 bucks) and you get a nice pair of bino's. Burris is also known for being super tough. I think they are much more ruged than a Leupold, and Burris backs all their stuff with the Forever warrenty. Just my 2 cents. Guest Colorado Bob
Re: Gun for Christmas need scope I just bought a Leupold VX-II 3x9 40 MM Great piece of glass-----Leuopld is the standard by which all others are measured. IMO--they are the best. It will last your lifetime. CB
