buckee
I imagine (and I'm certainly no expert either) that it is because of the sap content in the tree. Liquid is a good conductor. (Just guessing) Height of the tree would play a roll too.
Ravin R10 man
Re: Maple trees? I'v seen electric poles hit, aint no sap in them! Here it does not seem to matter, whatever it hits it hits, transformers, roundbales, etc. We even have had bad rashes of "POLISH LIGHTENING"!!!! Insurance covers that though! sureshot
Re: Maple trees? I was told when i got my sattalite dish that all the trees were taller awround so no need to ground it. It will hit the tallest thing within so mant feet.we had a bunch of guys out golfing one year and a storm came in they were surrounded by trees anout 50 yards away so the thought they were safe in a little roofed shelter, lightining hit the shelter, they all survived but were lucky.
