Jeramie
Ok, first off most of you have read (or ignored) my post about my job. It pays well but is 45 miles from the house and im the in-between guy between the two bosses. I was pretty much a cornerstone for the company I worked for before I took this job. The owner and I had some bad blood because of my age so I quit before some new guys bought him out. The new guys bought me a new Dell Laptop and had me doing Commercial Construction Detailing on the side. That worked for a while and I made very decent money (on the side) for a while. I started doing to good of a job and they overloaded me. I didn't have time to tie my shoe let alone take care of anything or anyone else. I finally gave them back their laptop and told them I appreciated every single job but it was getting to be to much. I got a phone call 5-minutes ago from James, one of the guys that bought the company. They tried to hire me back shortly after I left but their level of pay wasn't nearly as much as it should be. In fact I was bring in close to the same amount doing the side jobs. He called and said "Just the man Im looking for." It went as follows.... "Hey man, whats up" "You!" "Me?" Laughing nervously... "Yeah you. I just talked to Chris (one of my current bosses) about our hiring you." "Really. You called Chris about this?" "Yeah, I think thats the way you do business. Was that not ok?" "Fine, actually I respect that. That is they way you should do business. All of that under the table stuff is kind of deceitful." "I know that you and Alvin (old owner) had some bad blood and he thinks its a bad idea to hire you back but honestly that doesn't even ring in our ears. This would be a lot less of a drive then Tulsa and I know that would be appealing. Let me lay it all on the table for you, we fired Randy (A detailer they hired for a while), the other guy is about to quit us and its leaving us in a pinch. We've taken some applications but you have a ton of experience (I ran the place for over 5-years). These other people had none and were going to have to drive from crazy locations. We are still going to hire a few detailers but they dont have your experience. If they work out fine, if not fine. If we have to go through them like water....fine. As long as things work as we expect, you'll be here." "Thats something to think about. Im getting sick of this 45 mile commute. Ill think about it over the weekend. Its certainly not a no." "Really, think about it. We need you. We are looking for people that will help this business grow and profit. If everything adds up for the both of us consider it a done deal. In fact if you want to think about it this weekend and come by early before you head off to work next week let me know. We will be glad to meet you here early and go over the terms." "Will do man, Ill call you one Monday and we can set something up!" "Sounds good Jeramie. Have a great weekend!" I entered this job with a contract and that was the best/ smartest thing ive ever done. I will do the same here. They cut the pay of a few employees but it wont happen to me. If they are bringing me in its no more then 45 hours, 2-weeks vacation, insurance, etc..... Non-negotiable (to a certain degree). I have a lot to weigh over this weekend but man this made my day!
