Re: 22lr VS 12 gauge

I have used both my 22lr and my shot gun, i like my 12 gauge because sometimes i will see a pheasent during seaason, i usually use either #7 1/2 high brass, or #6 low.

Re: 22lr VS 12 gauge

I'm used to hunting with the lighter gauge guns, 28 normally for rabbit, pheasant, quail, grouse. If I'm going only for rabbits sometimes I'll take the .410. Shoot #6 shot.

I never had a 12 guage until I started waterfowl hunting, I took it rabbit hunting once to get used to it, shot 2 rabbits that day, one of the two I shot completely in half, the other was similar - and that was with knowingly letting them get out farther than I normally would. The 12 only goes waterfowling or turkey hunting with me anymore.

i use high brass #4 or #6 just bc thats what my gun shoots best + it penetrates the thich brush better..JMO...thats what i like, holds a good pattern and great for 30 yard shots

Re: 22lr VS 12 gauge

I don't think i'd use a 12ga on a rabbit, it'd probably be ok if you shot it in the head. Out of the few rabbits that I've shot, I killed one with my .22lr with a hollowpoint, literally blew half of his head right off. And I shot two with the 20ga, it did a pretty clean job. wink.gif

I dont like munchin on pellets..so I tend to carry a 22lr...I dont run dogs...and will kick a rabbit up and then whistle at him...usualy makes him stop and look...then it's one shot...one kill.
