HarvDog
I believe I understand the difference between double and single action. My question is, what is the benefit of one over the other?
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Double vs Single Action - Benefits? In revolvers, the speed of reloading is considerably different between a single and double action. The single action requires that you open a loading port (I think that's what it's called?) and each empty case is extracted individually by pressing the ejection rod, rotating the cylinder, pressing the ejection rod, etc. until the entire cylinder is empty. You then insert the fresh rounds into each opening in the cylinder individually. With a double action, the entire cylinder swings out to the side of the gun and all empty rounds are ejected with a single push of the ejector rod. Fresh rounds can be reloaded individually, or as a group if you use a speed loader. There are a few guns that operate differently, but the vast majority follow these procedures.
