Guest littlered
i have tried a little preadator hunting without any sucess, i'm hunting with a savage .17hmr and useing a cass creek pradator call.i don't think this call is very effective and i was wondering how much it cost to get a call that would work, either electric or mouth call. if would be very helpfull if you could give some ideas and prices. About my gun i have heard people say if a .17 could take down a coyote. can it? i was thinking of buying a NEF just for coyote and woodchuck and possibly crows. if you have any input on the right caliber i'd love to hear it. and finnaly i don't know what the best time to go for them? any info would be greatly appericated littlered

Guest ronin
Re: newbie with some ?\'s Ditto, (.17HMR), but keep it in a decent range...>100 yards IMO. The call you have is fairly low volume and is limited in sounds. It is OK for close in work or when your driving down the road and see something but not for distance. I use the Western Rivers MP3 player with remote. I can set it up to about 100 yards away and it is easy to mix up sounds and volume. It's pricey, though. Personally, I would start with a couple of Lohman mouth calls and blow 'til your blue in the face for awhile. See if you like it then spend the big bucks. The high tech predator calls are great because the keep your movement down and move the sound away from you...but they cost a pretty penny. It is worth it to me. Guest ronin
Re: newbie with some ?\'s You can get all of the calls through www.cabelas.com or any other complete retailer. There might even be a local store that has a good selection. Just go to the call section of the store and you should find a few good ones. I would buy at least three. Make sure to keep them clean a debris free. Good luck!

Guest ronin
Re: newbie with some ?\'s I think any call will work. Just get out there and blow it. Make sure you vary your pitch and pattern from time to time. Give it about a 2-3 minute break between call series. Move to a new location after about 15-20 minutes. Guest ronin
Re: newbie with some ?\'s Oh yeah...go with a buddy and have them watch your backside. Wiley yotes have a tendency to circle the noise and come in with the wind in their faces. I've had bobcat and mountain lions do the same thing. Interestingly, cats don't utilize scent like canids do, yet they still seem to make it work in their favor on the hunt. I've had coyotes and fox airscent my stand out to 1000 yards. Keep the wind in your face when ever your out calling. Have a great time and save your hides.
