I'm using my woodstove over my oil furnace......seems to put out more heat, and I'm not used to wood cost, so I'm trying to decide which will be more cost effective. Now thats cut, loaded on my truck (I loaded), delivered and unloaded. I've seen prices around here go up towards $100 a truck load split and delivered. Being that I bought the house so late in the year I'm stuck buying wood or oil until spring. Just got 3 truck loads (cord and a half) for $60. Cord around here goes for $150 or so. Personally, I'm lucky to have a buddy like ohiobucks and a landowner friend that could care less if you cut up trees that fall over onto his fields. So far this year I've cut a cord of wood or so to offset the cost of my fuel oil. We just got filled up the other day for $2.19 a gallon, total of almost $400 for the whole delivery. For natural gas......I can get a cord of wood delivered for around 95 bucks: That is cut/split/dried...however I don't have an indoor or outdoor wood burner.YET! Wood does leave behind some soot: (Or so I am told by my mother who is upset over soot in the living room)...to me, I feel as though take what Mother Nature gives you, take the wood heat...
