VtBowhunter
Re: **High Blood Pressure*** Who has it***** I have to have a D.O.T. physical every 2 years, and last year I almost failed due to high blood pressure. I've since quit smoking which has lowered the BP and my migraines have gone away as well. Probably didn't help that I just went through a divorce at the time of the physical, and the nurse was hot, lol. Good luck, Al.

Tominator
Re: **High Blood Pressure*** Who has it***** I've been marginally high for years, but my docs don't seem overly concerned about it. I was 144 over 94 yesterday which is kind of high for me, my dyastolic (sp?) is usually around 75 to 80. The only thing the docs have ever put me on was something called Novatin, or Nova, something or other, I don't remember, but they put me on it right before a surgery to bring down the blood pressure. Whatever that stuff was, it might as well have been a sugar pill because I never noticed any difference in my "normal" life. The stuff they have now is pretty good Al. Hypertension is nothing to fool around with, stroke, kidney failure, eye trouble, heart trouble, and the list goes on and on. Get the meds and take them buddy. David_218
Re: **High Blood Pressure*** Who has it***** My Blood Pressure runs, on average, 115/58. My heart rate is 58 also on average. However, my total Cholestrol is: 253. LDL=150; HDL=85; Triglycerides= 90. I can't take those Cholestrol lowering Statin Drugs or Zeta, as I have side affects and they causes my PSA level to rise. elkoholic
Re: **High Blood Pressure*** Who has it***** Without having those readings confirmed in a physician's office/hospital it is hard to believe your blood pressure was that high. You should be dead. In our pharmacy, if someone using the blood pressure machine reports a reading of 180 systolic or 100 diastolic (or higher) we refer them to the emergency room across the street. In regards to medicine, there are many different blood pressure meds on the market. First line is the diuretics or water pills, (hydrochlorothiazide, furosemide, etc.), then there are beta blockers, these slow the heart rate and increase the ejection fraction, (metoprolol (Toprol XL), atenolol, etc.), then the calcium channel blockers, which allow dilation of blood vessels, (Norvasc, cardizem, etc.), then the ACE inhibitors, which reduce vasoconstriction, (Altace, lisinopril, etc.), then there are the alpha receptor antagonist, which inhibits vasoconstriction (prazosin, doxazosin, etc.). There are also multiple combinations of the various kinds. At any rate, blood pressure control is very important. It is not called the silent killer for nothing. Even if it does not kill you there is the issue of end organ damage. Which means you could go blind, or your kidneys might fail, or a myriad of other complications. My best advice is to listen to your doctor and take your meds. Others are depending on you. Good luck.
birddog
Re: **High Blood Pressure*** Who has it***** My B/P is about 128/70 which I have been told is good: I have a buddy with 130/78 and he was find...until they did his tri-glycerides...Almost 500....they scared the crap out of a 29 year old 6'0 189 guy!!!! .....no more lunch with him! I hate going in to the doctor out of fear!!! But I will say, your doc will help you big time!!! My ol' man is 59 years old....he works out 5 nights a week, and can bench press more than I....however he is Italian, and finally went on B/P medicine....With 178/98....genetics are huge: Al, I have to believe you were either nervous or dead when they took a 260 over 158 or 250 over 130.......which you mentioned: My record was a 210/100.....taken by a nurse! The doc came in (I knew him) and re-took ti...He said I was high at 153/80....but I was nervous as heck! .....your mind can play tricks on your system: Get your B/P checked by a doc.....and then if it is high...go on any meds they recommend! Keep us posted, eh?
Leo
Re: **High Blood Pressure*** Who has it***** There are two types of high blood pressure: Systemic and Hereditary. Systemic means there is something else wrong causing it. A smart doctor will eliminate any systemic first. That will tell him what to do next. Hereditary is simply that, you inherited the condition. Your BP is high enough that you better go see an internist who specializes in hypertension. A general practitioner that just throws pills at the problem is not in my opinion the way to handle this. Though that's what a lot of folks do. I have been on high blood pressure medication for years. In my case it is hereditary, but it still needs to be monitored to ensure the medication is doing it's job. You know what happens if you put a super hot reload in a rifle. That's what high blood pressure does to you body
