Looking for information!

I shot a piebald deer ion Michigan, no big secret. My question is, the internet says there are 13 states that outlaw shooting of white/albino deer. Michigan being one of them.

My opinion is that this law is crap, and based on emotion and not fact.

Does your state have laws to protect white/albino deer?

Whats your opinion?

Michigan - Yes

Re: Looking for information!

No law against shooting them here, though a lot of supersitious people around here feel you shoot one you will have bad luck in hunting afterwards for many years. Me personally, I actually have intentionally stalked and tried to bag myself an albino doe during rifle season the one year. I had all intentions of shooting her. Of course I didn't have luck on my side that day she stayed outside of the hunting zone caught one glimps of her in the safety zone standing staring at me. Haven't hunted the area I saw her at for two years now, as the last time I hunted there on the public lands it was just too crowded. Thinking of going back there for the next deer season though, so hopefully the little albino doe is either still alive or has passed her genes on and brought up some more albinos for me to look at attempting to harvest. I'm not holding my breath though. As for a law against killing them personally don't feel it should matter, but if that was the law here in this state I'd respect and obey it.

ILLEGAL??? That is about the dumbest game law I heard yet! First of all its a genectic flaw, I would want them shot off. Dont get me wrong they are very cool to see! Even a piebald or melanistic deer. But not allowing the hunter to take that animal is foolish!

I searched the Michigan DNR's website and I cant find anything that says you cant shoot them. Where does it say this?

Protected Wildlife

Eagles, hawks, owls, swans, spruce grouse, wolves, lynx, moose, cougars, cub bears, and sows accompanied by cubs, and all white or albino deer may not be taken at any time. All nongame birds are protected, except starlings, English sparrows and feral pigeons.

Certain exotic cervids (members of the deer and elk family) found outside of a fence of a registered cervidae facility for more than 12 hours may be taken by hunting year-round. Please contact the nearest DNR Operations Service Center for further information.

In the search box type- Protected Wildlife

Re: Looking for information!

from what i understand not allowing the harvesting of albino deer is stupid because both the doe and buck would have to be albinos to produce a albino fawn unless the fawn just happened to get the trait. same as the doe and buck got it.

so protecting them does nothing to help them populate. if nothing else a albino should be killed for sure because they are so noticeable that predators will probley get them anyways.
