ODH
I was wondering if anyone here lives and/or hunts in Bedford County, Pennsylvania or near it. A couple of my friends and I will be venturing out there for next years rifle season. We will be hunting on private ground that my great uncle owns. I am curious of how the deer population is out there, and how many good sized bucks have been harvested. Also if anyone knows the doe to buck ratio. thanks, jon
Hoyt03
Re: Bedford County, Pennsylvania Jon, I hunt turkeys out there sometimes and the birds are around. My buddy has been going up there every year for deer season and around camp most of the guys have always taken bucks, not real huge but bucks. The last two years things have been really bad up there. I think one small buck was taken by the group and not alot of deer have been seen. Now things on your private ground might be a little better, thats how things seem to be going in PA right now, the private ground is holding the deer. I have also talked to a guy who hunts in a camp up near Shawnee State Park and he too said its been the worst two years he's ever seen up there. What parts of Bedford are you going to be hunting in? LifeNRA
Re: Bedford County, Pennsylvania North central PA was hit very hard the last two years. Go here and look around, you might find out some more answers >>> http://www.huntingpa.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/Cat/
snapper
Re: Bedford County, Pennsylvania My wife's grandfather lives just outside of the town of Bedford. There is a good deer herd there...really can't give you any info. on size of bucks and buck to doe ratio...but I think its still worth going since you have private land to hunt. All of PA isn't the same...some places got hunted hard and deer numbers are low. Other places are still over run with deer. I took a buck and two does this past season and seen a ton of deer. Other places are still over run with deer. I [/ QUOTE ] Snapper hit it right on the head. A lot of PA hunters are griping about getting the rules and regs changed. Maybe some areas but not all. Some areas are still overrun with deer and Bedford Co is one of them, at least from my expierence. I hunt a farm out there right off Rt.326 in Rainsburg. I couldn't get back this year to hunt but last year and many years before that, I have always tagged out and never put a dent in the herd. It is actually a scary drive in the morning and night going from my Brother and Sister-In-Laws house in Schellsburg to that farm in Rainsburg. Deer have the run of the road around that area. I think maybe PA needs double their WMU's instead of how they have it. Some areas may not need doe tags I don't get paid to determine that but I do know some areas really been in bad shape due to the amount of doe tags. But too many PA hunters want to do a Statewide change and bann doe hunting and IMO not all of the State needs a change like that. But at the same time, some of it all goes back to scouting as well and prepping the battlefield

jbeck
Re: Bedford County, Pennsylvania I have to jump in here, we have 800 acres posted in pa, I can tell you that the deer like the acorns on the state ground far better than the posters that I put up. I even used the yellow ones. LOL I'm thinking of switching colors until I find the ones the deer seem to like better. I think I'll try a nice Mauve or maybe go with a simple violet color. Guest buddy ahart
Re: Bedford County, Pennsylvania lol i wonder if you would post raskay pictures of doe's around your property and have an arrow pointing towards your property if the bucks would follow the arrow. Maybe some neon posted signs would work make it like an all night bar lol
