popgun
Remington 7400 is a good rifle. Fancy stocks are just "eye candy". If you expect to give a lot of abuse to this rifle I would definitely go with the synthetic. If it is a little more uncomfortable to shoot than a wood stock, why should it matter? Once you have it zeroed in you aren't going to shoot a volley at a deer. One or two shots with insulated coat etc. You won't have to worry about dings in the stock anyway. .....popgun
JimT
Re: Remington 7400 semi-auto synthetic 30/06 I am not a semi fan at all. I had a BAR that jammed on me. Several buddies have had Remingtons and Brownings jam on them. We all for the most part shoot pump rifles or bolts now. I will never own another semi. Strut_Buster
Re: Remington 7400 semi-auto synthetic 30/06 My uncles older 7400 jamed constantly. Be shure to buy a new 7400 not and older one. But yeah... I would also go with the BAR if you had the chance... or.. the ulimate semi Auto the SKS in 7.62x39. This gun will not jam... AK47 style action and legendary reiability in all tematures and weather... we never clean it and it always works no matter the temp. Its not super accurate but will do the job for deer to 100 yards. strubedog
Re: Remington 7400 semi-auto synthetic 30/06 Gun oil makes a difference in autos. Rem oil is no good in cold weather. Jams are most likely a dirty rifle or a clip that is bent. I just sold my 7400 30-.06. I tried different ammo and never found it to be very accurate. JimT
Re: Remington 7400 semi-auto synthetic 30/06 [ QUOTE ] I have an old Model 760 pump 30-06 my grandfather gave me. The weatherby has an edge in distance but I can shoot and handle the Gamemaster alot bettter, love the gun. [/ QUOTE ] Exactly. If I were looking for a rifle which would give me a quick follow up shot, the 760 or 7600 would be my choice. Great rifle for sure.
robk
Re: Remington 7400 semi-auto synthetic 30/06 i have lost s lot of my strength in my left arm due to injury and surgery with a bad neck. i actually started using an encore and i can unload and load with no problemssince my strong arm is my right i can hold th egun and trip the activator grip of the encore and can change out my ammo with my weaker hand and arm so you might want to tthink about a gun like an encore also. yeah your shots better be good but with a little practice you can load and unload the encore really easy. just another idea for you rob k
