Mossberg 500 ?

Now that I'm through hunting with it for this year, I thought I would do some tinkering.

I've had a Mossberg Model 500 Trophy Slugster for 10-15 years now. It's a pump and (with age I guess) the forearm seems to have more wobble in it every year. Operates fine, I just can't stand the rattle it makes. Any ideas on how to tighten it up and take some of that "play" out?

It's aggravating, but the darn thing shoots great, so I haven't replaced it. I'm just afraid that noise is going to cost me one of these days.

Re: Mossberg 500 ?

You might try tightening the forearm retaining nut (I think that's what it's called). Remove the barrel and look at the muzzle end of the forearm. You'll see a big ring with two slots cut into it. This ring screws in and holds things in place. You may need some special type of tool to fit it, or you might be able to find something else that will work. If that doesn't fix it, it's probably excess wear on the bars that go into the sides of the forearm.
