Guest fourtrax_300
ok i found these tracks in a cut milo field that is traveled by deer alot. the shotgun shells in the pics are 2 3/4 inch 20 ga shells. these tracks are huge ! could they have somehow got warped in the mud and it made them bigger ? other tracks in the same area are normal sized deer tracks. let me know what you think. sorry for the photo quality they were taken with a camera phone and it was getting dark on me. ODH
Re: deer tracks ? (pics) they are big, but the mud will make them look bigger.
Guest DropTineOutdoors
Re: deer tracks ? (pics) Being as though you have other tracks in the same area to match them up against and you can confirm they are fresh also. Than I would say you are looking at a good deer. However, the mud will make them look bigger, so dont go too crazy just yet. Maybe a spot for a trail cam? Good Luck.

rockefeller66
Re: deer tracks ? (pics) the mud will make them look bigger but obviously there is a good sized deer running around your parts!
Mirage
Re: deer tracks ? (pics) perhaps the deer slid also or draggs his feet when he walks. also the mud can make a smaller deers foot print look larger, however that looks good maybe a heavy deer too

wtnhunt
Re: deer tracks ? (pics) Looks like it is probably a pretty good sized deer. Mud will make tracks distorted some. Like Saskbuck says the best way to judge tracks is to look at the width.
Guest fourtrax_300
Re: deer tracks ? rutbuster
Re: deer tracks ? (pics) Take a three inch shot gun shell or a 30-06 loaded shell or a tape, lay it crossways on the track and if its close or fits the track, theres a good chance your looking at a buck track ,also as said the mud will make that track look a bit bigger also you could be looking at a 200# dressed deer ,give or take a little
rutbuster
Re: deer tracks ? (pics) ooops, if that track is about three inches wide you could have that size of deer
Stinger-Hunter
Re: deer tracks ? (pics) The width, not the lenght is how you judge a buck. Anything larger than 2 1/4 inch is a good buck. You have to go by the width because as a deer gets bigger, they get wider and they have to support that weight laterally or they will not have good balance. Tominator
Re: deer tracks ? (pics) I think type of soil has a lot to do with it too. Softer ground will splay the hooves more. If you can, find both front hoof marks and see how wide apart they are. If they're over 14" apart, that's a big shouldered deer, probably a buck. It looks like in your one picture where the back hoof is touching the front hoof, and you'll notice that it's a bit outside of the front print. I can't tell if that's a dew claw mark, or the back hoof, but if it's the back hoof, I think you're looking at a nice buck. It's pretty easy to see a doe's print because if you look close enough, you will see a doe will put her rear hoof, pert near into the front hoof mark, but a big buck can't do that naturally because his chest is too big. rutbuster
Re: deer tracks ? (pics) width and stride can tell you alot and of coarse the hoof print itself a buck with a 20 or 23 inch between prints is a good one, and a tree inch wide track, you have your self a heavy weight buck.
